Hi Kosmo,

We do have a lot in common! My hubby and I have always dreamed of moving to Myrtle Beach but thought it was years away. We moved last year when our youngest graduated high school. We love it here!
The last time I was doing LC I became so scale obsessed that my hubby threatened to do the same thing to me. This is my 3rd "real" attempt to change my WOE. I did Atkins 72 in 98-99, lost 80 lbs, and in 2009-10 lost a little over 80 lbs. The biggest difference I have found this time is I'm calmer and more sure of myself. I know my triggers. The last time I was on it, I was doing wonderful until Thanksgiving of 09'. We lost our home of 28 years to a fire and were not able to rebuild due to being underinsured. I stayed true to plan for about 3 months after, but eventually it all got to be too much.
SOOO, hoping this time around I have a little more control over my emotions, and the attachment of the scale to them.

PS: I also think that I will have more control just because I have gone through menopause and I won't have such large fluctuations. I could easily gain 10 lbs in between the week before and during.

HELLO CHICKS ( TAM, I have been called the momma hen here and Momma Cricket so we have PEEPS ..newbies..and chicks ) so, here I am at going on 1 am..again. Had a nice cup of tea w/ hc and some celery w/ cream cheese.Maybe that will do it.
TAM... have you read my articles? There is a thread..How the Scale can Lie..another explanation of Flux..find them if you can or I will repost them here.WORTH the read! We USED to get frustrated with the numbers but no longer. We know why there are changes. We gain water to replace the fat loss in the cells...we gain water when we exercise...with too much sodium too..tracking is a friend not foe and the scale is only a TOOL to use and learn from. Take your measurements. You have been through a lot and this time, you can do it! most all of us here have the shirt and hat of been there done it too THIS time we have each other and knowledge! We are also Floridians but from PALM BEACH area.Moved here 9 years ago.I miss the warmer winter and have seriously thought about doing something in the future to get a winter place. This is a horse and blueberry farm.
BARB>>> no more holiday horrors here!... FOLKS, we know how to make OOPSIES and CLOUDS, cheese cakes and such.We have real whipped cream to top over sf desserts/Jello...TG is meat and can be legal easily... I plan to use the water enhancers a lot to make sauces! in fact, I BET I can duplicate that swedish meatball recipe we all uesed made with ketchup and grapejelly! SF ketchup with the sf grape should do it! I BET IT WORKS... if none of you have tried to bake with it on chiken and meats, then you are missing out!
oh..TAM..if you have not notices..I CANNOT TYPE and so it goes LOL...
BEAR is a timid sweetie and hurts so she will take a little time to come around. Tomorrow I will head out to Jeffers' to get Lexus a soft muzzel to wear inside. She had a cage serious one but it rubber her badly, so I think the soft will do fine as long as she can't grip. We do our best to keep on top of things here.
The show is next weekend on the 12th... hope it is dry since I have that unusable convertible! wearing a panch to drive is crazy!
calling it a night again..maybe will get some sleep...

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!.....NASA (and US
!)

WE DO NOT FAIL BECAUSE WE KEEP TRYING!
We have learned and keep learning how our bodies adjust to the ever changing dynamics of life. We follow the Philosophies set forth by DR ATKINS in DANDR..1972 or 1992 versions.

It does not get easier as we get to goal and we accept that we will keep trying and not give in to old habits. We move forward, even if we take steps backward, we strive for success.
Positive attitudes and a sense of humor is a big help.
WE ARE THE A-TEAM!

GOOD MORNING beautiful TEAM MATES WELL, AFTER 2 ROUNDS OF HYDROCODONE..DARN IT CAPS...and 3 extra strenght acetaminophen, I finally got rid of the headahce and the shoulder aches and got some sleep.enough to wake up happy
I hope you all had a good night and are ready to have a wonderful day. I managed another solo shower and shampoo and am finally dressed ot the earrings in the ears so all is progressing at MY speed
BEAR is still hurting and the bruising has begun to show.Cannot wash her wounds well at all and can only hope they will not infect.Only one concerns me so I will try to soak it with some wound wash later. At least I have a good supply of just about anything and everything from ER and my supplies. Here is a sad fact that was in effect way back 10 years years ago.. when I worked for hospice, the rules were simple.. supplies were gotten for patients and when they dies, they could not be eturned to the facility since the patient paid for them..well, the gov't paid once for it so they could not go back into circualtion..double dipping etc.. and that is how the raod nurses and staff aquired extra supplies to use on patients when on emergency care runs. Either that or the trash! So, products were used and used well....when working in steril labs for gov't...the buildings would be broken down and redone to ensure the sterility inside. The products were all tossed out and not regassed in. Not allowed, so it was take as you wanted. What a waste.FOLKS, the gov't has some pretty messed up regulations that are costing the tax payer a ton of bucks.. at anyrate, We are well stocked for emergencies. as I used those items, I purchased replacements and have maintained a good supply.By now all has been repurchased.Nice to have had them given away to us to start with and not end up in the trash. I used to volunteer my services with the ambulance to cover civic funtions and the local sports events so these items were used frequently
Enough of that!
LOST more .Down 1.2..ahhh..emicons stopped working .....
TODAY I will finally join PAULETTICUS and grow gills. TUNA time. Have had my mug of coffee with HC this morning. It is 9 am so day is going along normally so far.
SO, PAULETTIE>> did you get to enjoy the pool?? by next year there will be twice the room re booted the emicons
KATHY.. so, busy lady where off to today?
HIMI... how are the bunnies?? You should send some pics of them! We all love to see photos..me, I cannot get pics on here anymore unless they are from Jodi's mail to me ake up my slack and post ???
TAM~~ Hope you have a fanastic day What do you track your foods on? I use FitDay and others have other trackers. As long as they are used all is greatRemember not to kill your scale on flux days
We all do the scale Mambo. Not to confuse you...we have our playground here.It is complete with see saws, merry-g-rounds, water slides and even have the MABLE MOBILE for stable mables remaining the same weight. I like riding that nice limo! We have road bumps, speed bumps, and 2 fairies fo our won. MISS WHOOSHIE does get lost and sometimes dumps all the water picked up at one house and plops it one of the others SHe has an evil win MISS MUSHIE who gathers up the water and dumps big time!
We all have our days of just hungry for no reason and we have learned to plan for those days, stocking up on legal things we can nibble or stuff ourselves with. If you do get hungry, then eat if not hungry then DO NOT You said you knew your triggers...well, they do change our tastes change and so life goes
CHRISSIE>> where are you?? ARE you OK?? was this your last weekend of fun and games with family and friends? WE MISS you GF
BARB... weather here has been so fabulous.Wish I could get out in it! I can see the benefit of not being at one facility for long.. it is easy to get wrapped into the poiltics.I used to hire traveling nurses for units that tended to become too tight and cliquish. they could remain neutral and the flow was better. I persoanlly did not stay very long at any one facility.Usually a couple of years. I got bored and frankly, the head hunters were always calling with great offers, so I had lots of opportunities to advance and diviersify I cannot imagine being a to one [place for as long as you have been. Kathy also is at the same place a long time. Glad the work is getting more reasonable.. How is your eye doing?
I think I am going to post those articles again for us. I re read them from time to time!...BBL

WHY THE SCALES CAN LIE

A biologist at Berkeley shared something very revealing on the low-carb BBS system about 4 years ago that helps us all through the erratic weight fluctuations you invariably encounter: Fat cells are resilient, stubborn little creatures that do not want to give up their actual cell volume. Over a period of weeks, maybe months of "proper dieting", each of your fat cells may have actually lost a good percentage of the actual fat contained in those cells. But the fat cells themselves, stubborn little guys, replace that lost fat with water to retain their size. That is, instead of shrinking to match the reduced amount of fat in the cell, they stay the same size! Result - you weigh the same, look the same, maybe even gained some scale weight, even though you have actually lost some serious fat.

The good news is that this water replacement is temporary. It's a defensive measure to keep your body from changing too rapidly. It allows the fat cell to counter the rapid change in cell composition, allowing for a slow, gradual reduction in cell size. The problem is, most people are frustrated with their apparent lack of success, assume they have lost nothing, and stop dieting.

However, if you give those fat cells some time, like 4-6 months, and ignore the scale weight fluctuations, your real weight/shape will slowly begin to show. The moral of the story - be patient! Your body is changing even if the number on the scale isn't.

PATTERNS OF WEIGHT LOSS

Common patterns of weight loss from tracking a lot of people who become assimilated into the low carb lifestyle, a pattern emerges.... the 2 week induction is pretty heady...weight lost just about every single day, enormous and unbelievable amounts of weight loss are reported. This is often followed by complaints that weight loss "stalls" or that the rate drops to only 1 pound per week.

Many people just don't know that fat-loss ...the actual goal when on a weight-reduction" diet, is rate-limited. In other words, the human body has factors that prevent more than a certain amount of fatty-acid release from storage...and even more factors that prevent those released fatty acids from being used up instead of stored back into the fat cells.

A priority of the human body is survival. Anything that threatens its survival results in the cascade of events to maintain the previous status quo. Water fluctuations are one way the body does this. OK...so you done good on Atkins' during induction...lost 10 pounds the first 2 weeks. Maybe 7 the first week and 3 the second. But, whoa! Weeks 3 and 4 there is NO loss! And weeks 5 and 6 is only 1/2 pound each!

So... what gives? Initially, the body jettisons the water attached to the glycogen stores that we diligently deplete to get into ketosis...this accounts for about 3-5 pounds of water. In addition, muscle stores of glycogen are not being replaced when used...which will account for the rest. All in all...MAYBE 1/2 pound of fat was metabolized during the first week... and MAYBE 1/2 pound of fat was metabolized the 2nd week. Of that 10 initial pounds, only 1 pound was fat and 9 pounds water...

The body senses this lack and sirens start shrieking: Warning! Warning! Losing water... new thing...got to get back to the status quo! Brain tells body to produce and release that vasopressin anti-diuretic hormone....more water is retained, and no weight loss noticed. Fat loss is still occurring, MAYBE even 2 pounds per week, because ketosis is firmly established and appetite suppression is in effect...but water retention is hiding that continuing fat loss. The body is preventing dehydration with this mechanism, and that's a *good* thing.

From the perspective of the scale, it can be discouraging. Which is why the mantra: Water retention masks fat loss (repeated frequently to oneself) is helpful. Water retention will mask ongoing fat-loss for as long as the body retains the water. We can combat this by drinking more water...but we aren't going to totally overcome this mechanism during the initial water-loss phase of the Atkins diet. By weeks 5 and 6, things start to get back in balance, and the scale will begin to reflect the true fat-loss...which, as mentioned before is rate-limited.

Individuals vary, but max weight loss runs about 2 pounds per week...under extremely optimal conditions... or 1% of body weight (whichever is the lower number). So don't use the scale as an excuse to undermine your progress. Even when the scale is in a stall, fat loss can be occurring.

----------------

We've been told over an over again that daily weighing is unnecessary, yet many of us can't resist peeking at that number every morning. If you just can't bring yourself to toss the scale in the trash, you should definitely familiarize yourself with the factors that influence it's readings. From water retention to glycogen storage and changes in lean body mass, daily weight fluctuations are normal. They are not indicators of your success or failure. Once you understand how these mechanisms work, you can free yourself from the daily battle with the bathroom scale.

Water makes up about 60% of total body mass. Normal fluctuations in the body's water content can send scale-watchers into a tailspin if they don't understand what's happening. Two factors influencing water retention are water consumption and salt intake. Strange as it sounds, the less water you drink, the more of it your body retains. If you are even slightly dehydrated your body will hang onto it's water supplies with a vengeance, possibly causing the number on the scale to inch upward. The solution is to drink plenty of water.

Excess salt (sodium) can also play a big role in water retention. A single teaspoon of salt contains over 2,000 mg of sodium. Generally, we should only eat between 1,000 and 3,000 mg of sodium a day, so it's easy to go overboard. Sodium is a sneaky substance. You would expect it to be most highly concentrated in salty chips, nuts, and crackers. However, a food doesn't have to taste salty to be loaded with sodium. A half cup of instant pudding actually contains nearly four times as much sodium as an ounce of salted nuts, 460 mg in the pudding versus 123 mg in the nuts.

The more highly processed a food is, the more likely it is to have a high sodium content. That's why, when it comes to eating, it's wise to stick mainly to the basics: fruits, vegetables, lean meat, beans, and whole grains. Be sure to read the labels on canned foods, boxed mixes, and frozen dinners.

Women may also retain several pounds of water prior to menstruation. This is very common and the weight will likely disappear as quickly as it arrives. Pre-menstrual water-weight gain can be minimized by drinking plenty of water, maintaining an exercise program, and keeping high-sodium processed foods to a minimum.

Another factor that can influence the scale is glycogen. Think of glycogen as a fuel tank full of stored carbohydrate. Some glycogen is stored in the liver and some is stored the muscles themselves. This energy reserve weighs more than a pound and it's packaged with 3-4 pounds of water when it's stored. Your glycogen supply will shrink during the day if you fail to take in enough carbohydrates.

As the glycogen supply shrinks you will experience a small imperceptible increase in appetite and your body will restore this fuel reserve along with it's associated water. It's normal to experience glycogen and water weight shifts of up to 2 pounds per day even with no changes in your calorie intake or activity level. These fluctuations have nothing to do with fat loss, although they can make for some unnecessarily dramatic weigh-ins if you're prone to obsessing over the number on the scale.

Otherwise rational people also tend to forget about the actual weight of the food they eat. For this reason, it's wise to weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you've had anything to eat or drink. Swallowing a bunch of food before you step on the scale is no different than putting a bunch of rocks in your pocket. The 5 pounds that you gain right after a huge dinner is not fat. It's the actual weight of everything you've had to eat and drink. The added weight of the meal will be gone several hours later when you've finished digesting it.

Exercise physiologists tell us that in order to store one pound of fat, you need to eat 3,500 calories more than your body is able to burn. In other words, to actually store the above dinner as 5 pounds of fat, it would have to contain a whopping 17,500 calories. This is not likely, in fact it's not humanly possible. So when the scale goes up 3 or 4 pounds overnight, rest easy, it's likely to be water, glycogen, and the weight of your dinner. Keep in mind that the 3,500 calorie rule works in reverse also. In order to lose one pound of fat you need to burn 3,500 calories more than you take in.

Generally, it's only possible to lose 1-2 pounds of fat per week. When you follow a very low calorie diet that causes your weight to drop 10 pounds in 7 days, it's physically impossible for all of that to be fat. What you're really losing is water, glycogen, and muscle.

This brings us to the scale's sneakiest attribute. It doesn't just weigh fat. It weighs muscle, bone, water, internal organs and all. When you lose "weight," that doesn't necessarily mean that you've lost fat. In fact, the scale has no way of telling you what you've lost (or gained). Losing muscle is nothing to celebrate. Muscle is a metabolically active tissue. The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns, even when you're just sitting around. That's one reason why a fit, active person is able to eat considerably more food than the dieter who is unwittingly destroying muscle tissue.

Robin Landis, author of "Body Fueling," compares fat and muscles to feathers and gold. One pound of fat is like a big fluffy, lumpy bunch of feathers, and one pound of muscle is small and valuable like a piece of gold. Obviously, you want to lose the dumpy, bulky feathers and keep the sleek beautiful gold. The problem with the scale is that it doesn't differentiate between the two. It can't tell you how much of your total body weight is lean tissue and how much is fat.

There are several other measuring techniques that can accomplish this, although they vary in convenience, accuracy, and cost. Skin-fold calipers pinch and measure fat folds at various locations on the body, hydrostatic (or underwater) weighing involves exhaling all of the air from your lungs before being lowered into a tank of water, and bioelectrical impedance measures the degree to which your body fat impedes a mild electrical current.

If the thought of being pinched, dunked, or gently zapped just doesn't appeal to you, don't worry. The best measurement tool of all turns out to be your very own eyes. How do you look? How do you feel? How do your clothes fit? Are your rings looser? Do your muscles feel firmer? These are the true measurements of success. If you are exercising and eating right, don't be discouraged by a small gain on the scale. Fluctuations are perfectly normal. Expect them to happen and take them in stride.

It's a matter of mind over scale.

Another explanation.. of flux frustration

Read on if you want to understand "fluctuations" and "yo-yo's" ! I replied to a post and I thought other people might be interested to read this: I too hate those scale "fluctuations" and "yo-yos". Not only do they make us doubt (I am doing this right?? why am I gaining I follow the diet to the T !!!???) I did some research and I found something very interesting online and I will share with you if you don't mind. We have in our bodies, a FIX amount of fat cells, we don't loose fat cells as we loose weight, it is just that those cells are letting go the fat and are shrinking. Our body in return, try to "keep everything intact, in balance, as it is..." so it temporarely replaces the fat with water, sometime with even more water than the amount of fat coming out! And as your cells slowly "de-flate" and get back to normal, your body "tighten" the cells and let go off the water. (they give the example of a air balloon that you would inflate to the max for a long period of time, when you finally let the air out, the balloon is very wrinkled and don't look like the balloon you first started with...) for your body, the fat causes "inbalance" and your body has to heal the same way as if you had a cut, the deaper the cut, the longer your body will take to heal it, "fix" it. The "wrinklier" the balloon, the longer it takes to heal it... That would explain why we might see a good new low weight, we are all excited, then next day it is up 2 pounds and those 2 pounds take a few days to go back down, just to reveal a new low, and then the same cycle start again. Next time you see a 2 pound high, remember, your body just noticed a fat loss and is "balancing" and "healing" things out, that mean you HAVE loss fat and you are on the verge of seeing a new LOW on the scale. Instead of being frustrated, we should be rejoycing! It is certainly not time to eat out of the book! I also understand better why they say a plateau is 4 weeks or more. They say It can take up to 4 weeks for certain person's cells to get back to normal, to heal, it depends on the speed of the weight loss, how long we have been overweight and other factors. After 4 weeks those fat cells are back to normal for sure if you are a healthy person, they are done healing, so if you still don't loose, it's time to tweak and see what you can do to break the plateau, Dr.Atkins' book show several way to help, his 1972 version, if you have it, would be a good place to start... I just did 2 x fat fast the Dr.Atkins recommend in his book and broke a 4 months plateau and went down 12 pounds, according on what I just described, I assume it would be normal that I stay at or around that weigh for a few to several days. I can maybe add... the body uses water to "fix" or "heal" our muscles too after a good work-out. You can be 2 pounds heavier after a good workout and this is not muscles just yet... it is water that your system uses to "heal" your body. If your muscles "hurt", then there is water in it. If you weigh everyday you will see normal fluctuations, look at the monthly fluctuations and not weekly, if you weigh once a week or twice a week, don't trust the scale because as Jacq said, you might just be in a part where your body is "fixing" your cells and the next day could have show you a number totally different. So when you follow the Dr. Atkins's book to the T and see a gain on the scale, REJOYCE! A new LOW is on it's way! I am no doctor and this is finding I did online, those appears to be written by a doctor so I would tend to believe it. Do your own researches and you won't be "disappointed" or "frustrated" and indulge when you see a small gain on the scale... I wonder... If we see a BIG gain on the scale, does that mean we have a big loss of fat??!! replaced by a LOT of WATER and a BIG new low is coming!!! That's great! LOL Have a terrific day all...
To this information I will also add: Yes, we do have set fat cells that we create at different times of life. The do not float away. They are laways there... and for those considering liposuction, or have had that and had some odd things happen...:

Our bodies REPLACE lost fat cells. How unfair is THAT! I was told that by my surgeon after I had abdomniopastic surgery aka "tummy tuck".. after losing the 190 lbs it was medically needed for the flap of belly.. yes, we know what that is if you have been obese...

well, soon after that was done, I noticed that my uh..well.. hmm... ok.. no other way t o say this.. my bra was getting tight and I got bigger.. before I could not see my toes becasue of my belly and now I could not see them because of this new development.. when I asked my wonderful surgeon and pal what was going on he laughed and explained that the fat cells return in other areas and usually in the chest for women.. not happy me!

So, I hope you enjoyed the article and I find this so true on both medical knowledge and personal!

8 Steps To Stop Your Nighttime Bingeby Mark Hyman, MD
Do you sometimes sneak a late-night snack, even after you’ve had a big dinner? Or worse, do you find yourself binging at night?

You are not alone! Are you hungry after a big meal? Do you continue eating late into the night? Millions suffer from this devastating problem that leads to obesity, diabetes, and depression!

I call this the sumo wrestler diet. Have you ever wondered how some of these men get so huge? They have a giant meal and then go right to sleep—guaranteed to pack on the pounds!

So, if you eat late at night just before bed, you’re on the sumo wrestler diet, and you will gain weight and get pre-diabetes. Your body will store the extra calories as fat instead of processing and burning them.

So, how does this happen? Have you ever thought about why, even after a big meal, you crave more food, more sugar, and more junk, and you want to have chips or sweets or other unhealthy foods? What is the root cause of this, and how do we deal with it?

Balance your hormones

It’s not a character flaw or an emotional issue that you have to fix. It’s not some psychological trauma that you have to get over (although for some, night eating is triggered by stress). It’s simple biology. All you have to do is understand why these changes happen in your body to make you crave food late at night, and then, you can overcome them.

The underlying cause is an imbalance of the hormones that regulate your appetite. These are what I call the four hormones of the apocalypse. There are specific things that trigger each of them, and if you understand how to balance them, you won’t have cravings for sweets and other foods…and you won’t be eating late at night.

These four hormones are the following:

Insulin – A very important hormone that your body produces to process the sugar in your diet. When your insulin spikes then crashes after eating sugar and flour or junk, it makes you hungry. This can even happen after a large meal of “good food.”
Leptin – This is the brake on your appetite. Leptin says to your brain, “Oh, I’m full. I don’t need any more food.” When you eat a lot of sugar, processed foods, and flour, the leptin doesn’t work anymore. Your brain actually becomes leptin resistant.
Ghrelin – A “hungerhormone” produced in your stomach that helps regulate your appetite. Leptin sends the message, “You should eat – I’m hungry!”
Peptide YY – A hormone that is produced in your intestines, and it says, “Hey, I’m full! I’ve had enough to eat. I don’t need any more.”
There is also one other hormone we need to consider: cortisol, the stress hormone. When you’re stressed, your cortisol level goes up, and when that happens, you get hungrier and your blood sugar and insulin levels rise. This sets the stage for pre-diabetes or insulin resistance, and it’s a vicious cycle.

So, all these hormones have to be kept in balance. How do you get them in balance? It’s very simple.

8 steps to end nighttime eating

Here are the 8 steps you should take to balance your hormones, stop the cravings, and end the nighttime binges.

Eat breakfast: This is the key strategy to stop the nighttime cravings. Of course, if you are binging at night, you probably won’t want to eat breakfast, because when you wake up, you’re still full. So, you have to break that cycle, and you have to start with breakfast: a good, protein breakfast. There are two breakfasts that I love and use all the time. The first is eggs in any form you like: as an omelet, fried, or poached. Eggs are a great source of protein that helps balance your blood sugar. Be sure to eat WHOLE eggs, not egg whites. The second is a whole food protein shake that can be made quite simply. I keep all the ingredients I need in my cupboard, so it’s ‘goof-proof,’ and I don’t have to think about it. It’s all there. I put in hemp seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, almond butter, coconut butter, frozen cranberries, frozen wild blueberries, and a little unsweetened almond or hemp milk. I put those ingredients in the blender, and it’s fantastic. If you have one of those for breakfast, it’ll keep your blood sugar even all morning and all day.
Don’t drink your calories: If you have sugary, liquid calories in the form of sodas, juices, lattes, sports drinks, or iced teas, it will spike your insulin and blood sugar and will cause cravings.
Make sure you eat regularly: Have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you want a snack in between, that’s fine, but make sure you eat at regular rhythms and regular times. Your body is a hormonal clock, and you have to eat in rhythm to keep it in balance.
Have protein and good-quality fat at every meal: Good fats are nuts and seeds, avocados, coconut, olive oil, or quality protein like chicken, fish, or grass-fed meat. Some combination of these (plus lots of vegetables) balances your blood sugar.
Find your pause button and soothe the stress: Stress makes you fat (and overeat); relaxing makes you thin. Learn to find your pause button and de-stress. I encourage you to look at my blog on reducing stress to learn exactly what to do. Breathing, yoga, and exercise are some of my favorite ways to reduce stress, which helps reset the hormones, balance brain chemistry, and stop the cravings.
Prioritize sleep: If you don’t sleep, you will be hungry, especially for carbs and sugar. Why? Because when you deprive yourself of sleep, ghrelin, the hormone that drives hunger goes up and PYY, the hormone that makes you feel full, goes down. So, if you want to lose weight, sleep it off.
Find your food sensitivities: People don’t realize this, but you often crave the thing you’re allergic or sensitive to. And gluten and dairy are among the biggest triggers for food sensitivity. Try to get rid of these for a few weeks and see if your cravings stop.
Supplement to cut cravings: There are natural molecules that balance your blood sugar and your insulin and help stop the cravings.
Omega-3 fats, especially fish oil—a couple of capsules a day can really help.
Vitamin D also helps regulate hormones and balance insulin.
There is also a super fiber supplement called PGX that’s very simple to take. It’s made from a Japanese root called glucomannan and seaweed. And it comes in a powder or capsules. Take it 10 to 15 minutes before you eat and after dinner, and it will help cut your cravings. It slows the spiking of insulin and blood sugar, helps make you feel full, increases the PYY, balances out all the hormones, and stops the cravings. I’ve seen people lose up to 40 pounds using this simple high-fiber supplement.
Chromium, lipoic acid, N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) can also help cut cravings.
New studies show how branched chain amino acids can also help balance your hormones, stop your cravings and increase muscle mass.

Good Morning all! It is the 1st of September and I have a 1 lb Gain today. As this seems to be my new pattern I am not going to complain further. I just wish WHOOSHIE would visit me soon. If I compare to last month, I have another week before I can start seeing those damn losses again!

Yesterday I got hungry at night and had 2 oz of cheese before bed. Probably did not help with the scale reading. I also drank a bunch of my Tang flavored water. So That does help explain the gain. I do not see much swelling of the feet so I am hoping the whoosh comes soon and I don't start puffing up.

TAM - The scale DOES go up & down quite regularly when you weigh daily. But I find daily weighing to be an integral part of monitoring your progress. It allows you to follow trends and see your patterns. For me lately, I have been losing only about a week a month. The rest of the month I stabilize and even go up a few lbs, only to start losing again when the window opens for the month. I would never have been able to see and follow/predict this trend if it were not for daily weighing. Just imagine what it would be like if I only weighed once a week, and it happened to fall on a week of gains.......then I would truly be shocked and I would never know why! That is my philosophy. I used to stress over any little .2, .4, or .6 gain. But now it is to be expected, especially if you had a sudden whoosh. Being on this site and former sites with CRICKET has taught me a LOT about PATIENCE while losing weight and I have learned WHY fluctuation is so common and normal. It is STILL FRUSTRATING to see a string of gains when you are following the program so honestly, but when you look at your chart (it is always good to record daily weights on a chart or graph), you can see the downward trend over time.

BARB - I never did get any pool time yesterday. It was cloudy and cool all day! They kept saying warm and sunny, and it never happened. But TODAY is warm already! And that sun is out, although hazy. I WILL be in the pool a little later, guaranteed!!!!

HIMI - Good luck on your weigh in today, especially after eating the potluck foods. I hope you will not see a gain from it. I am still riding this see-saw, but I hope you can find the slide!!!

CRICKET - Poor little Bear!!!! I hope she is not too badly hurt!!!!!!! You have a whole pack of dogs there, and I suppose they must scrap every now and then, but to pick on and gang up on a poor little submisive dog seems so wrong! I would be livid and could not accept it. But that is me. Dogs make me nervous, and that mean unpredictable wolf thing would scare the heck out of me. I hope you find a solution to all the chaos.

Today ribeye steaks were on sale for $7.99/lb and hamburger for $2.99/lb, so I bought some! We are having the steaks this afternoon and it will be such a treat for me! I NEVER get to eat steak! But at this price, I insisted!!!!! The steaks are bone-in and about 16oz. I a going to eat the whole thing, dammit. So that will be the bulk of my food today. I will have my cream and snack on some cheese later if needed. Right now I am going to have a HB egg to tide me over until steak time.

Have a great Tuesday and enjoy!

OH PAULETTE~~ you of any of us deserve the losses and YOU are losing.. post those before monthly again! LOOK how amazing you look.We can not see the minute differences and those scales pounds are not true.Your lowest weight is the true weight for u and for anyone on plan. The rest is only flux..OK we DO flux big time and not everyone experiences the wild swings like we do, but they are but temporary. YOU dear heart have learned to control those frustrating times.. I call then more annoying than frustrating. We are still in control....yes, the daily weight chart is a must to keep the trends.I use my desk calander and have them going back years! at the end of the week and month I USED to nore the ups and downs..now, I just take a look at the week before or at the weight that is a stall or set point.

oh.. the trouble maker is always Lexus and only if there is food involved..she WILL grumble when JETT ( JODI'S dog) walks by but she is fine.I did try to give her away but no takers and I understand that. I would probably worry myself to death if I DID give her away. The huge pen was supposed to be a solution but we know how THAT worked out! the cage muzzel was supposed to be a solution.. and so it goes. This was a freak attack opportunity. Jodi left a huge box of dog biscuits on the floow near the desk and Lexus found them. Little Bear was just a threat in her area. They all get along other wise but still this is so stressful to us.Lexus is almost 9 I think now and I do not want to wish her life away, I will admit that I will cry hard but it will be a better place here without here. She is MY dog. Shadow is his own wolfish self, Teddy has chosen Carl, and Bear chose me. Baby is my shadow all the time. Cats are easier and Pablo and Thing #1 and THing #2 are the best ways to go!
