And just a side note; before I had my back surgery last spring, the doctor wanted me off of fish oil for at least 2 weeks. It's an anti-inflamatory so he was concerned about excess bleeding. Not sure if it's the same for knee replacement surgery, but it might be worth asking about it.

Here's to a speedy and successful recovery!!

Right fish oil does thin the blood so I can imagine why they didn't want you to have it before surgery!

BTW: Even though Dr. D. has a ways to go I think his program is marvelous for the most part. Certainly his attention on blood glucose, proper thyroid, omega-3, D3, K2 and such is really quite remarkable.

I am glad to know this Nancy. I don't agree with him on the meats and Sat. fats completely either. I can eat lean, but I can eat fat too. I see no reason anymore to bathe in the fat - so to speak. A lot of people over there keep saying that Stuart needs an ApoE test to determine what kind of responder he is....or something like that......can't quite understand it.

Stuart is having a heart scan next Friday, like Dr. Davis suggested, and then we are following up with Dr. Westman - the internal medicine man at Duke. If his scan shows nothing bad, then I will let nature take it's course regarding his lipids and let time heal it.

I just googled and read about prednisone and diabetes. Now, since no one else on either side of his family is diabetic, I am wondering if that didn't start the problem to begin with. But, he really did eat a lot of donuts, ice cream, chocolate bars, french fries, etc. He is getting better now. That one guy - Cadheart - is really pro statins. I asked him point blank - "so, wouldn't you say my husband is moving is a really good direction in 6 weeks to have lost over 200 triglyceide points on Atkin's? " Took him forever to agree....keeps saying "You must keep your eye on your husbands small LDL's." This man honestly believes statins would have helped Stuart more than Atkin's. I wish Dr. Davis and the other doctor talked more!!!

Nancy - can I post Gary Taubes Dartmouth Lecture over there? Or do you think it would make people mad? I want help not animosity. They do seem pretty open minded though! I posted the link about the sat. fat pub. med article and it was already being discussed.

I have no idea. I'm not a member of TYP, I just figured if I ever need that info I would join.
