I have been wondering this and I really didn't even know who to ask since I am like the only one in my entire family including extended family and husbands family that works out - even my friends - they don't work out either! But anyway, I am in the market for an ipod/Mp3 player. My main concern is what kind of ear phones/pieces stay on your head or in your ears when you are running? I've never had luck with that in the past. My ear holes are on the small side. Dumb question but thanks so much for any responses!

I just use the earbuds that my ipod came with. They stay in pretty well. *shrugs* that probably didn't help but I thought I'd give my two cents.

Get those that loop over your ears. I am in the same boat as you. I almost got thrown off the treadmill trying to put mine back in my ears. I have a Zen player by Creative Labs. The earbuds are the same as the iPod ones and they won't stay in my ears at all.

Funny you should ask...I just asked the exact same question on my running board yesterday. There were some good suggestions:

Probably not what anyone wants to hear....but I don't like running with noise. Music is just noise. I want to stay "in the moment" when I'm running, while at the same time being able to hear the drunken cowboy who is about to run me down from behind. Meditation is about staying in the moment, whether that be contemplating your navel while chanting "OM" or doing 440 repeats so fast it's what a friend calls "Full tilt boogie vomit" runs.

These are the best if you want more isolation (you can still hear, but not even as much as the typical headphone that just sits on your ear).

Love them.

I am the same.. when I'm running/cycling or working out with weights, I don't want any noise or sound.. no TV, no radio, no ipod...

However, when I HAVE used the ipod in the past, I used the loop overs and they worked perfectly.

Well, I don't like noise when I am running outside - this is strictly a question for the gym membership I have - rather not hear the people yappin so I thought I'd try anMP3 and i guess I will try those ones that wrap around your ears! Thanks guys!

I love the ipod when running, good choice...and I don't use the earbud headphones b/c they feel like they are going to fall out. I use these titanium brand from Radio Shack. They were about 35.00 but they fit on my head, stay on and the sound is just superb. Also they have a volume adjuster on the cord which is convenient when exercising. :-)

It's neat how different everyone is. I truly love running but I think the thing that makes me love it is actually the music I play during. I use the music beats to set my pace and rhythym for the run - kind of like dancing almost. It really gets my endorphins going. Sometimes I almost feel I can soar or fly. But when I don't have music on I am so conscious of what hard work running is and feel every little pain! I can and do run 5 miles with music but probably only 1 without it. I really admire people who are more in tune with running without music. :-)
