I am new to this forum. I have tried low carb diets in the past but with very little success. I get frustrated with meats and vegetable after a few weeks. I need more variety. I know this works because I have always lost but not been able to maintain the loss. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I am going into week 2 and find myself looking for other things to eat already. Are cheeses and lunchmeats ok for the Atkins diet?

Welcome!

Cheese is great, the lunchmeats - uit depends on the brand - some are loaded with sugar or salt and nitrates. I used to ask the deli person to see on original package, so that I could see the carb count and any added ingredients.

Hi Lorri264!
welcome to this forum, you will find so much info and support here, I am sure you will feel right at home!

Do you have the Atkins book? I am not sure if you are on induction right now, or on Maintainence.. I would be careful of too many processed meats, and meat with nitrates in them... this can cause a stall, especially if you are on induction.

Also, there are many success stories in here, and people who have used various LC plans to lose. I think the key thing, for almost everyone, is not to view this as a diet, but an eating change for life. This is the problem with diets, people lose the weight.. then go back to the same old eating patterns and then gain what they lost and more back.

I would check the journals of some people who have lost a significant amount and use them to help inspire you on the days you are feeling down, or discouraged, or like eating bad foods.

Also, what kind of exercise are you doing?

I highly recommend a journal, that way we can visit you and give any feedback you may be looking for.

cheers,
hope to see you around!!

Talking Thanks for the feedback (no pun intended)

Talon and Jodi,

Thanks for your feed back. I do not have the Atkins book. Guess I'd better get it and read it. I had read the original version about 15 years ago but I'm sure things have changed since then. Since this is day 13 for me I am assuming I am in induction or at least supposed to be. At this point I'm not sure.

My husband and I walk and/or ride bikes 2-3 times a week. It seems like with our hectic work schedules and busy family life there just isn't time to fit in more.

I have read quite a bit about sugar free jello on this site. What's your opinion. Some days that is what gets me through. Today I am craving chocolate but have not sucomed. 3 weeks has been about the most I have been able to stay away from the sweets.

My son is getting married June 21st and I'd like to be down at least 10 more pounds by then? Is that realistic?

Lorri

The sugar free jello is one of those "Your Mileage May Vary" (YMMV) things - some people it cause sweet cravings - some people do not tolerate the aspartame very well. THere is supposed to be Jolly rancher and Blue Bunny jello in the premade packages that is supposed to be made with splenda - I've never seen them locally though.

As far as 10 pounds by June 21st? Possible, but don't let it get you down if you don't, weight loss is a journey, not a race. You'll get there, just when your body is darn good and ready.
