Default Research from a new member (Hi)

Hellow Fellow Low Carbers!

I am Laura Richard and recently I had an opportunity to interact with Tamarian, and as a part of our email conversation, we learned that we share a passion for LC research! He invited me to post any interesting research I come accross in your group. He told me about this board, and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of it! Wow! Since Tamarian & Voyajer already do such an excellent job in uncovering LC research, I have a feeling I will be an infrequent poster here!

With that said, I do have a couple of research links that you might be interested in that I did not see on the board. I hope you enjoy them!

This study is yet another research statement hot off the press from Harvard University. In the July 2002 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition three Harvard professors wrote an article entitled Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes . These researchers reviewed past studies regarding increased carbohydrate intake and its connection with increased type II diabetes risk. While they acknowledge that this topic is somewhat controversial, they clearly state that they believe that there is a strong connection between high carbohydrate intake, insulin resistance, diabetes and heart disease. Now this may seem intuitive to those of us who are experienced low carbers, but I am sure you know that this connection has been strongly denied by the medical and nutrition communities for many years. To read this short, clear statement go here: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/abstract/76/1/274S

In another statement in the same issues of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition , three researchers from the University of Sydney, Australia cite support for the concept that high carbohydrate intake results in obesity. In their statement, Glycemic Index and Obesity , these researchers review studies that support the concept that lower glycemic index foods ??enhance weight control because they promote satiety, minimize postprandial insulin secretion and maintain insulin sensitivity.? They call for more research that compares the effects of ?conventional? and low glycemic diets on weight control. To read this short, clear statement go here:

Happy Reading!
