Post Dr. Atkins Original Diet Revolution?

So far I've been low-carbing just by reading research and websites, and following this board (thanks, guys!) for information. I'm a little broke right now, so couldn't afford to go buy any of the books.

The church next door to me is having their annual flea market this week, and I stopped in yesterday. They had some like-new books on sale for 25 cents, and I found a copy of the original Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution (not the new edition) in perfect condition.

I decided that for 25 cents I can't pass it up, and I should at least read this version to see what he says.

So experts, fill me in: what am I missing by having the original version? Is there anything in it that's no longer valid?

I have the old book too and I'm not sure how many changes have been made, I don't think a whole lot.

OMG a LOT of changes. This is the program I wouldn't go on. If you go to www.atkins.com you can get all the new info for free. Go to Induction and you can print out the list of foods allowed.

Well, I'm not doing his plan period (whoops, sorry!) because I've done pretty well just doing low-carb without ketosis, I'm more interested in his research and how he arrived at his ideas. Has much of that changed?

If you don't have the $ to buy the book, why not check it out at your local library. You would benefit greatly from reading it even if you don't choose to do Atkins, but just want more info on low carbing. Good luck!
God Bless,

The 1972 book (yeah, I got it at a book sale) has some anecdotal stories and is rather vague about the eating plan. It gives the impression that you go the first two weeks with no carbs, but it has some remarks about there being virtually no carbs in lettuce so salad is allowed. It is quite vague and has little to no research in it.

Look for the 1992 or newer version, I picked up some from another book sale for friends and family. This will tell all the details and provide research and more anecdotal stories.

I just picked up the newest release (latest copyright 2002) and I absolutely loved it! He changed alot from just the last release (1999) - I think it's a lot easier to read and navigate, and there are extra tips and tools (removable carb counter ).
