Default Aspartame on Boots Vitamins!!!

I have been taking the Boots Multivitamins as part of my supplement regime since I started this WOE back in May last year. At the time I bought them I scrutinised all the ingredients and chose the ones that didn't contain iron (as suggested by Dr A). I never thought to check for sweetners (since they're obviously coated)! Anyway it just crossed my mind (today!!!) to check and surprise, surprise IT'S COATED WITH ASPARTAME!!! I had thought I'd been avoiding this substance like a plague not knowing I've been taking it (albeit in small quantities) for the best part of a year.

I think this is a good news/bad news scenario - good news is it obviously hasn't affected my weight loss (if a loss of 43lbs is anything to go by), but the bad news is that I'm going to find it really difficult to take them now I know it contains aspartame!.

After that long ramble my question to the UKers is where can I get multivits minus iron and aspartame from???

Cheers everyone and have a good day!

Yeah, I found that (after I'd foolishly bought a load on a 3 for 2 ) Now I only use Atkins Basic 3 that I buy from Boots. Waaaay more expensive than standard multi-vits, but waaaaay more vits when you have your 3 a day.

I get my uncoated mulitvit and minerals from Holland and Barrett. I must I don't worry about the iron in them. Not sure why Atkins is against that. Don't think it was mentioned in his first book. Wonder if it is more to do with constipation as iron is a good cause of that!!!

I've never suffered from constipation, so I might go for the ones in H & B and see how they work, thanks Anne! Also I think in Dr A's book he mentioned iron in relation to the kidney or liver or something and what excess iron does to it (don't quite remember so I may be wrong!)

I agree Doogie that the Atkins ones are quite pricey so will give them a miss for now!

Have a good weekend everyone!

Just what is the big deal with Aspartame??

Real curious as I've had a few diet cokes now and suffered zero adverse effects.

Atkins is really negative on aspartame, recommends using sucralose (Splenda) instead. However, lots of folk eat it without any problems, although some do find it stalls them. It's one of those YMMV things.

Yeah, I think aspartame probably doesn't do anything to stall me but "psychologically" when I knowingly ingest it (when I ran out of splenda drinks) I automatically think "oh oh!" and sure enough I don't lose anything for a few days after that. My DH consumes it in gallons in the form of diet lemonade, diet ginger ale and all the diet drinks you can think of! Now it might all be in my mind since I've been taking these vits for near on nine months and have been losing fine so go figure!!!
