Post Day 3 on Fat Fast

Hi All,

Early in the week i mentioned that i was planning on doing the fat fast as i wasn't losing any weight. This is my 3rd attempt at Atkins. 1st time around i lost 10lbs in 6 months. 2nd time i wasn't prepared mentally to do the plan and lasted 5 weeks. I'm on Depo birth control and might have a thyroid problem. Its being so discouraging. Not many people understand and they assume you are cheating. So i am on day 3 of the fat fast and its going really well. I haven't being sick and my appetite is completely adjusted. I have also gone down 3lbs. I plan to complete the 5 days and i pray that when i get back on induction i would continue to lose. Its being a year and a half of very little victory.

I know it is discouraging when this happens. Have you had your thyroid checked out by a physician? You really should if you haven't already. Glad that the fat fast is helping. How long had you gone with no weight loss (not including the period you were cheating?) I just wanted to say that I wish you the best of luck and hang in there!

Good luck agee, and I hope it works for you. I don't need to tell you (but I am going to)...please get your thyroid checked. Not just for weight loss, if that is indeed out of whack, but for general well being. Your thyroid has so many other symptoms that could clear up. Depression is a side effect and you may not even realize you have it. IMHO just judging from your post, you sound a little down even though the fast seems to be working for you. Anyhow, I wish you good health and most of all, WEIGHT LOSS!

Thanks for your responses.

Lori, I have had a thyroid test but it came back normal. This can happen for a number of reasons e.g Birth Control. So i've being reffered to an Endocrinologist.

Smidgie27, I have a lot of the symptons and have gotten used to living this way and i've made the best of it. I guess i'm not sounding excited as i've being disappointed too many time so i'm being a little cautious. My lowest weight has being 185lbs which i've just reached. When i get into the 170s then i would definitely be shouting the roof top.....lol.

agee, I really hope everything checks out ok. I know it can be very discouraging when you stall, been there myself. (still am)
Don't settle for living with those symptoms! Harass your Doc or find a new one that will get to the root of the problem. Life is too short to live that way and we all deserve to get the most out of it. Best of luck!

Maybe you might try the Barnes Technique of basal metabolism to check your thyroid. To do it simply take your temperature orally four times a day (before each meal and before you go to bed) for four days. Average your temperature each day, and if it is consistently below 98^ Fahrenheit, you are likely to have hypothyroidism.

ageekott,

I feel your pain and wish you the best on this fat fast. Please keep me posted on how it goes. It just might be my next step.

By the way will you post what you are eating. I notices in the book he mentioned pate and caviar. I just don't think I could stomach either of those but didn't know what I could substitute for them. So I'm curiouse to know what your eating.

Deana

Default Day 4

I've gone down another lb. It would be great to get out of the 180s. Tommorow is my fifth and final day on the fat fast. For the 1st time, my ketostik was deep purple and i do drink a lot of water, its normally very light pink. Some people mentioned that they gained back all or some of the weight they lost on the fat fast. Only one people said she didn't gain after getting back on induction. I pray its the same for me. I would like to leave the 180s behind raelly soon.

Deana, I've being having eggs, mayo, tuna, avocado, brie, cream cheese (didn't enjoy), macadamia nuts, heavy cream and 0-cal syrup. I'll be getting some roasted chicken and pate today. I haven't had pate in years. I'm a little bit iffy about the caviar.

Maybe instead of going into induction, you should step up to the modified fat fast and THEN to induction? I was just thinking it might not startle your body quite so much and maybe you wouldn't have the regain problem? It's in the DANDR right after the fat fast.

Julie

Thumbs up Day 5

This is my last day on the fat fast and i think its best to get back on induction. The modified fat fast does sound tempting. I want to eat more food...lol. I would definitely work on getting my fat intake to over 70%. I have a feeling i'll be down to 182lb tomorrow morning.

Mary, i'll definitely be giving updates. I didn't do well yesterday being the last day of the fat fast so no lose, i had chicken, brie and butter. I shouldn't have had butter(as its the only new food i have in the 5 days and not on the list). This morning, i had a hearty breakfast of egg, butter and bacon. A few people suggested checking out Candida, so i would not be having any chesse (except for cream cheese), vinegar (and anything that's made with vinegar e.g. mayo, dressings), mushrooms and nuts. Should i be having heavy cream?

Heavy cream can slow weight loss in some people on Induction. If you do use it, book recommends keeping it to 3 Tablespoons per day.
*If you use sour cream that day, it counts in that 3 tablespoons limit.
There are receipes in Atkins book for a candida diet. You can make your own mayo and other salad dressings, thus eliminate the vinegars.
