Question Safeway Roast Chicken

I ate some roast chicken from Safeway today. Then I binged ten hours later. That was the only thing I can think of that would cause such a craving. What do u guys think?

Maybe you would have binged no matter what you ate? Cravings happen and you need to be prepared to handle them. It always worked well for me to have bacon or something like that on hand.

There was probably sugar on the chicken. Read the label.

I just googled Safeway's roasted chicken and it has 1 carb gram per 3 oz.

Here's the source I found:
http://www.caloriecount.com/calorie...chicken-i322032

Here's the list of ingredients:
Whole chicken, water, contains less than 2% of salt, sodium phosphates, modified corn starch, sugar, carrageenan, soy lecithin, natural flavorings, xanthan gum, coated with salt, onion, paprika, spices, garlic, citric acid.

And the source I found:

What else did you eat that day, or the day before? It's pretty extreme to blame trace sugars and starches in seasonings. I eat those grocery store chickens all the time and that's probably the last thing that would cause me cravings.

If the chicken is all you had, well, undereating is a pretty solid cause of binges, too.

Lucky you. After years of this, I know well what causes cravings..that list of ingredients..does for me.

After years of this I know lots of things set off cravings, including, but not limited to:

1) See a TV commercial of something I used to eat.
2) Smelling cinnamon buns at the shopping center.
3) Having recent straying off course
4) Walking down the chip aisle and being reminded of Doritos
5) Seeing the words "French Fries" on a menu
6) Being bored, overly tired, or upset
7) Being hungry and having the wrong sort of food around
8) Reminiscing about my childhood and eating XYZZY

Cravings happen for a huge number of reasons, in my experience. They aren't always linked to something I ate earlier in the day, unless it was something purely awful, like M&M's or popcorn. It is MUCH harder for me to ignore them if I don't plan on a way to deal with them or if I've recently caved.

In fact, this is a good reminder for me that today I may face challenges due to my recent bad behavior.

That's a big one for me. My favorite grocery makes the best cinnamon rolls - which I haven't tasted for about 2 years now. They also make something else -not sure what it is - that smells heavenly.

I used to have to avoid the bakery area completely, now I can take the short cut to the eggs and just inhale without massive temptations.

I truly do not think it is the roasted chicken. I eat them from Sams club now and then and never have this problem.

PSSSS I hate walking threw the bakery in sams to get a chicken. It smells so dang good

EXACTLY! This is just one way of having to deal with the challenges we face. This wasn't anything as massive, and sometimes fruitless, as resisting and facing temptation, it was understanding that one can overcome a challenge by something as simple as modifying the path you take to get somewhere else.

Sometimes I have to learn to "not look". I used to fall prey to these little bags of trail mix at TJ's. They were little bags clipped to a shelf. Because they were little, I justified to myself I could have one and it was okay.

Well, one became every single time I went to TJ's. So the first step to getting rid of this craving/compulsion was to find a different, better snack. I would fixate on the trail mix and then divert myself to the roasted seaweed instead. It took a while but the compulsion with the trail mix eventually faded.

Such is the nature of cravings. They can come from a simple association of being somewhere and eating something delicious.

Really... we're just slightly larger amoeba responding primitively to stimuli.

The beauty and the frustration of changing the way we eat is that the things we used to eat don't disappear from the face of the earth, we just change our relationship to them.

We had cookies in the house for the 2+ month that Daughter and her family were here. Her husband eats them for breakfast with his espresso; it's an Italian thing.

I just had to concentrate on how delicious whatever I was eating was. And get my SIL to understand that it was NOT rude to avoid offering me something he was eating. It was more rude to keep offering grains and the newest Pringles, when I suffer if I eat them.
