Default Carnivores are more selfish than vegetarians

Couldn't find any article whatsoever about this subject in English. So I translate it for you.
It has appeared in a few newspapers in the Netherlands and Flanders and (as may be expected) there are a lot of reactions.

Perhaps in a few days it will be available to the rest of the world as well.

Carnivores are more selfish than vegetarians

People who like to eat meat are more selfish, less social and they behave like jerks. Meat brings out the worst in us.
This is the conclusion of three professors in Tilburg and Nijmegen, who did different researches to the psychological significance of meat and eating meat.

Carnivores feel themselves superior to others, say the professors; they think that vegetarians and flexitarians feel better and that they are less lonely.

In a study, a group of test persons were made to feel insecure. After that they were given the choice to eat either a steak, an omelette or fish. In the insecure group 60 percent chose the steak, while in the control group only 20 percent preferred that kind of meat.

---

EDIT: Just found out the "culprits"

Marcel Zeelenberg and Diederik Stapel of the Radboud University at Tilburg and Roos Vonk of the Nijmegen University.

They probably chose the most nourishing food since they were the most stressed.

You don't see meat eaters throwing pepper-laced pies at authors (cf Lierre Keith)

That's an excellent point!

If people were stressed and cake was one of the choices; I think we'd see an overwhelming preference for CAKE.

This will really hurt the paleos' feelings: there will be warm and fuzzy group hugs for consolation right now over in that forum, no doubt ;-)

Oh yeah. Everyone on this forum who shares freely of their experiences, offers comfort and support, is a total jerk. I knew it all along. LMAO!

Let's hope not. We have enough bad studies in English to keep the press busy spreading pointless information, as it is

Okay, some red flags--

Three teachers (very vague, I'd like to know more about their credentials)
a Study (oh lor...too many questions...)
a group (how many?)
of test persons (also very vague, how about at least mentioning age/genders? What about socioeconomic group? how were they selected?)

In short, whatever "findings" they have here are worthless without more specific info on how this was conducted.

If there's anything at all to this study, I think it actually would be along these lines.

Herbivores (prey) tend to herd while carnivores (predators) tend to be loners or travel in small packs.

I don't get it. Am I missing something? How does choosing meat make you a selfish jerk?

Are they really starting with the view that meat eaters are selfish jerks?

Had it been the people making the group feel insecure that chose meat.....

All I can see is that if you're made to feel like crap, you're more likely to want something nice and substantial to eat. I also agree about if cake had been an option or ice cream. If anything this, to me, fits more with a food reward theory, as in if you're under stress, you're more likely to choose the most rewarding food available.
