I think it would be fine, when you've boiled a bone for a while you'll see it gets very porous, and any sinews or jount cartilage will tend to fall off. You're probably right that you won't get to eat the marrow, though. Any gelatin from the outside of the bone will still be in the broth.
I use ox tails for my bone broth, and the bones seem to be anywhere from 5-6 cm, maybe even 7, to less than one.
