Default Berberine

Greetings to all! My dh has type2 diabetes and had been stable on metformin with some dietary changes. Around the first of the year he switched to taking berberine. He now is swearing by it but truthfully he rarely tests his bs and has not had any recent lab work done. Has anyone on the group tried berberine and what was your experience? Thanks for your time and your thoughts.

I am trying to get back to lchf and if, but my life has been very stressful this winter and I am struggling getting back in the rhythm. Thinking about using the berberine until I can stabilise my eating.

I tried berberine, evening primrose oil and r-ALA. They did over some improvement in my blood glucose (about 10pts lower), but I had a skin reaction, so had to quit taking them. I think my reaction was somewhat unusual, so might be worth trying.

Dr Davis's new book UnDoctored has a basic strategy that he claims works for most chronic lifestyle diseases, and he added a few other specifics for a some conditions. For diabetics, of the basics, he claims "cultivation of bowel flora" most important as it helps restore the body's response to insulin. Surprisingly for the extras, he has no supplements at all. Instead, follow a no-change rule for BG, achieve ketosis, and like Dr Fung, engage in Intermittent Fasting.
