Thank you Stephen
Thank you for your review of "Life without Bread"
I have been reading about the Atkins Diet, but could not entertain the idea of dieting without fruit, which I eat at least five pieces of a day. Life without bread I can gear more to my natural high levels of fibre. I love all vegetables, my favourite being spinach.
I am off to order this book, because it looksa like a life time commitment for me rather than a diet

Thing is, this guy died of a stroke in June or July 2004. I know because I used to go on his site all the time...I guess it scares me a little because I don't even think he was 45 years old...your thoughts anyone?

hi Chantal,
His stroke was due to side-effect from the drugs he was taking for HIV .. it had nothing to do with low-carbing. You can read more information and discussion about this here .. Dr. Stephen Byrnes dies suddenly.
And Dr. Lutz, author of Life Without Bread, is 92 this year, and doing a seminar on low-carb in Switzerland this month. He's been low-carbing since the 50's. Nothing scary about that...

Life Without Bread has some great discussions of the physiology behind low-carb, in layman's terms. Protein Power did the same thing. I'm starting a low-carb book collection!
