Question Counting carbs on SP2

Hi all! I am new here.

I have been on SP2 for maybe a week (from 8 weeks on Atkins) and I have been reading the posts throughout the lowcarber SP sections. Very helpful!

I just noticed in the last few days, in using the menus in the SP2 book, that her carb counts are WAY off! Anybody else notice this? I wasn't counting carbs at first, just followed the menus, but after reading all your posts and because of my initial weight gain I started to count.

For instance, this morning's "20 carb" menu was scrambled eggs, 2 tortillas with tomatoes or salsa. Well, MY tortillas say 37 grams of carbs for two tortillas! YIKES! I have found this type of discrepancy thoughout her menus.

A perhaps clearer question :rolleyes...do you count total carbs or "impact" carbs on SP2? I have been counting total carbs since SB does not seem to differentiate between types of carbs like Atkins does.

Thank you all for being here!

Hi Rivrgodess:

Just a guess. I would suspect the discrepancy in the cookbook is b/c she only counts starchy carbs as carbs, not veggies. See if your calculations jive when you eliminate the veggie carb counts.

Technically, you only count starchy carbs as your carb count. You don't count veggies.

Default Carb counting

Hi there rivrgodess

I'm wondering if perhaps the carb she's counting on those tortillas are based on brands listed in the book. For example, she list Ezekial bread - which contains 15 grams per slice.

I myself have been having a difficult time measuring up potatoes. I'm on the 30 carb plan and it's suggested in her book that one medium size potatoe is 30 grams. I'm concerned that I may be choosing potatoes that are large or even to small and therefore - getting either to much or to little carbs. I want to be as exact as possible right now.

Can anyone advise me on this one? I was thinking that I could measure my potatoe - I beleive that one cup equals 30 carbs..? Is this correct? Does this include the skin?

Thanks,
Rene

I ALWAYS weigh my potato. I know it's a different measuring system in the U.S., but depending on the type of potato 100g is 30 carbs. Ive lost my weight eating about 50 to 100g of potatos a night.

As far as tortillias go, I made that same mistake the first time I bought them! Carb count varies widely so you need to be sure to check the package to make sure you are getting the tortillias with fewer carbs, mine contain 11 grams per tortillia, so that's probably where the discrepancy is. And it's no special brand, just what I picked up in the ethnic section of my grocery store.
