Default New with questions

Hello everyone
I'm new not only to this board but also to low-carbs. I have not read any books as of yet, but the SP WOL sounds the most logical of all the low-carb plans I've researched on the net. I have ordered SP1 but it hasn't come yet - I really look forward to reading it. Now for some questions:
I realize that SP is a WOL, but is it practical for the whole family? Our children range in age from 12 to 4 months - are the children OK with more carbs because of their high energy levels? Also, the youngest hasn't started solids yet, but with all the others the first foods I used were grain based cereals and fruits - both very high carbs. Does either SP1 or SP2 address this issue at all? I realize that most people (in this country) have health problems due to high carb diets, what about preventing our children from developing those problems in the first place?
As for a bit of our diet history, we've not used any hydrogenated oils for about 10 years, we all love eggs from our free range chickens & ducks, and we have recently changed over to range fed beef - in other words, we're not into 'low-fat'. As for carbs, we've been led to believe that as long as they're 'complex' they're good for you. It makes so much sense now, though, that they're not. When I first researched this I knew we should cut back on them, and now that we have, my craving for whole wheat bread is stronger than it is for sweets! And I think we've bought our last bag of potatoes!

Thumbs up

It sounds like you are getting your family off to a great start, food-wise. Are you looking at TSP as a weight loss thing then? I'd say just do TSP yourself, and let your family eat as they have been doing.

OTOH I am a newbie here myself. Have had TSP I for a couple of years and did read it and make a half-hearted attempt at it ... however I started it properly a week ago and feel great. I have over 100lb to lose, but will be glad to lose even 70!

All the best
Brenda

Hi Brit and Brenda

I am new too. I have been playing off and on with this WOE for 1/2 year. When I have been faithfully following it I feel so good. So I am back on for good. I have about 100 to lose too.

I think that this would be a great way for kids to eat. I am trying to get my family on this WOE and away from the white sugar and white flour. I wish I would have started when the kids were your kid's age. It would have been easier. I have read alot of information regarding ADD and other problems and the biggest culprits are the dreaded whites. I am thinking you are on the right track.

I have just read your posts and highly suggest reading SPII instead of I. I have not read I but from what I have seen on other postings the 2nd book is clearer and different. I think if you follow the second book you will b pleased.

I have started this about 100 days ago and have released 13 pounds and had release 7 before that. So a total of 20. I am really excited. For the most part I do not have cravings for sweets (which is a miracle in itself).

I commend anyone that can teach there children to eat healthy from the beginning to eat healthy. I would just keep them eating healthy with starchy veggies, non-starchy veggies, quality hormone and chemical free protein, organic and unprocessed foods and they will thank you for it in the long run.

They will get some bad stuff at school or with there friends but they will have a good basis for life long good nutritional habits. My doctor said that this is the way we were meant to eat. Not to eat anything (almost) that is manufactured by man.

Good luck.
