Default Atkin's shake fast

I was wondering if anyone used Atkins shakes for a short term fast?

If so, how many a day and for how long?

What were your results?

I've never used them solely by themselves before, but when I am on the run (or at work, where there is NOTHING healthy), I'll use one or two as meal replacements when needed. They fill me up, but usually only for a couple hours at the most.

I have never even drank one. Do they taste good? I did do slim fast back in the day, and I loved the dark chocolate ones.

I use the Slim Fast Low Carb chocolate shakes. They are cheaper than the Atkins brand. I think they are tasty, but my boyfriend hates them. (I'm no picky eater, either though!).

I really like the premade shakes. Vanilla is my favorite then the chocolate. I have used them for quick breakfast and for before working out.
But was wondering if anyone used them as a fast?

Many years ago I used Slim Fast Shakes
but after a while I found them too expensive
with too much sugar and too little protein.

I make my own with Skim Milk and Chocolate
or Vanilla Protein Powder. I use two scoops even
tho the container says one. I have lost 45 lbs in
6 months doing this twice a day with a lower carb
Budget gourmet dinner or two (not to excede 500
caloires total, for dinner.)

I highly recommend it, and when you use two
scoops of protein powder it will keep you revving
til time for your next meal.

See the following links for the type of product
I am talking about. I buy mine in 5 lb. containers
at Sam's Club for about $18.00. Much cheaper
than the health food stores which charge
upwards of $40 for a 3 or 4 lb. container.
See: http://tinyurl.com/a8anx for an example.

Hope This Helps,

Yeah, the ones I use are pretty expensive (5-6$ for a pack of 4). They have 20 grams of protein, which is decent, and only 2 net carbs (5 in all, with 3 grams of fiber).

I'm with Nille. Why would you want to limit yourself to liquid routine, when the world of real food is open to you?

Do the plan the way it's written, and you'll succeed. Everything takes time--especially learning to eat right.

For occasional convenience, protein powder or even a canned shake, can tide you over. But a "fast"? Forget it. Not a good idea.

I have been on Atkins for 2 years now lost 90 lbs- life happen and gained 16lbs back. I am doing very strict induction and some days as meat and egg and working out. The scale/and or inches are not moving.

The reason about the fast ( I don't mind the taste) is to see if it might break through this stall of mine. I have done other tweeks in the past to kickstart slow losses,( example: >carbs,<carbs etc.)So I was just curious if anyone had done this?

In the past liquid protein fasts worked great " IF" the person made sure to get the nessesary protein in.

Also I am not going to just jump into this. That is why I am inquiring now to see if others have had success at this? This would only be on the short term anyway.

Yes, low carb has delicious foods to eat. This is my chosen WOL.
But sometimes you just have to shake things up. Excuse the pun

I have never done an Atkins shake fast but long ago did the Slimfast one and nearly fainted from hunger and headache. Not a fun thing!!!!! Personally, I like the Atkins & (lowcarb) Slimfast shakes though I don't drink them very often. They've never stalled me that I've noticed either.

Okay, Jiggy. Sorry if I sounded abrupt. You're obviously an experienced low-carber, not some nutcase looking for a shortcut.

I haven't tried a Shake fast, but I could imagine it for three or four days to, as you say, shake things up.

My stall-breaker when I re-upped on Atkins a year ago was fiber. I added at least 20 gms/day, usually in the form of ground flaxseed mixed with wheat bran in a breakfast cereal. I still try to get at least that much fiber into my daily menu, and I swear by it.

Best wishes. Let us know what you decide to do.

I have a tub of the chocolate shake in my cupboard and personally i think it is disgusting, but I dont mind the occassional premade one. Vanilla being my fav. The premade ones taste so different to the powdered equivalent.

Glad you brought it up...

While I don't think that a fast with just shakes would be best, given the benefit of fiber in your diet, I do recommend the shakes. I actually do not use the Atkins variety, but use "On's Double Rich Chocolate" instantized whey protein blended with heavy cream, ice and a shot of sugar free Kahlua syrup.

Tastes just like a Mudslide! And with approximately 3g of carbs and 23g of protein, sheesh! How do you go wrong?
