Yes, I was always told to take medication with milk, since it was like having it with food. I'm not on dairy at the moment but last night when I was feeling queasy from my metformin, I really, really wanted a glass of milk. No milk in the house but I found a cheese slice in the fridge and that helped.
It's been reassuring reading how people are managing on metformin and low carb. I tend to get super queasy after a few days, but I'm determined to work through it this time. By this I mean I will continue to eat as usually the queasiness descends into a pattern of non-eating (not hungry) which makes it worse and eventually I have to have something bland (aka carby) to make it go away. There just don't seem to be any bland non-starchy vegetables/meat/egg meals? Last night's cheese slice helped, so I might keep some for emergencies.
In general I take 2000mg XR (1000mg morning & night) and do fine. I've been taking it for about 2.5 years. I don't eat a very high carb diet even when I'm not focussing on low carbing (probably 100-150g) so I am hoping my body will adjust.
