Default Looking for savory dip recipe

Not sure if this should be here or in the kitchen, but I couldn't find a place in the kitchen to put it. Mods feel free to move it if it's in the wrong spot.

I'm looking for a really simple savory dip recipe for marscarpone or sour cream. Already googled and those that came up are too complicated or make enough to feed an army. Pretty well all the marscarpone recipes are for sweet desserts.

My body can only tolerate dairy in small amounts and not frequently. I'm basically looking for something to add into 1/4 or 1/2 cup marscarpone or sour cream to have with raw veggies.

Any ideas?

Hi. Times like this, I really miss recipezaar.com. It got bought out by (or simply changed to) food.com. It's garbage now. The search engine used to be awesome: include or exclude any ingredients, select recipe type, ethnicity... now the search engine is crap.

I tried searching around on a couple of websites, then switched to google - and aha. We're spelling it wrong. It's mascarpone. Well, knock me over with a feather. You'll get quite a few decent results that way. This one looks promising - Mascarpone-Chive Dipping Sauce - if you ignore the pita bread accompaniment. Easy to scale back: just use 1 part mascarpone, .75 part sour cream.

This one sounds nice, too: Mascarpone and Pesto Dip. Again, easy to scale: about 3 scant Tbsp mascarpone to a Tbsp of pesto. (Can you handle the parm cheese? You could always make your own and omit it.)

Try adding curry powder to sour cream and/or mayo. Bit of a kick, complex flavors, and the turmeric in it supposedly helps with inflammation.

what about a dairy free dip like guacamole, baba gnoush or a tapenade?
microwaving peanut butter with soy sauce, unsweetened rice vinegar, a little splenda and crushed red red pepper makes a great asian peanut dip, as well.

Is marscarpone a type of cream cheese?

Cause if it is, WOW, must be karma cause I usually don't collect recipes any more (too much temptation for me). But earlier this week I found this recipe in a magazine in my dentist's office.

BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP

Ingredients:
2 c (10 oz) shredded cooked chicken breast
8 oz cream cheese
˝ c. Hot Sauce
˝ c. Ranch dressing
˝ c. (2 oz) shredded Cheddar cheese
2 chopped green onions to garnish, optional

Directions:
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees F.

Combine all ingredients and spoon into a shallow 1-quart baking dish.

Bake 20 mins until mixture is heated through.

Garnish with chopped green onions, optional

Serve with fancy crackers and/or raw veggies.

Bon Appétite!

Jo! What a yummy recipe. I am going to try this with celery for dipping. If I have 1 cup it is only 4.725 carbs (plus the celery). That is great. Thanks for the breakdown.

I often try spice or herb blends with sour cream, sometimes as a dip for meat as well as veggies. Italian herbs, herbs de provence are good; garam masala or harissa if you like spicy, and adobo is a good blend too. If I'm too lazy to make a side dish with meat I have a cup of sour cream dip on the side.

One favorite I came up with a while ago, haven't had it for a while: I did a version of an "everything bagel" in a sour cream dip -- sesame seeds, garlic chips, poppy seeds, onion flakes, and sea salt.

We make a curry dip..super easy to make and double (or triple), normal ingredients and keeps forever. My mom gave me this recipe and I have no idea where it actually came from.

1 C mayo
1 clove garlic (I prefer freshed crushed but powder will do)
1 t horseradish
1 t tarragon vinegar
1-2 t curry powder

mix well..refrigerate and let it meld for several hours or overnight before serving. It will get better and better as it sits. Enjoy with all kinds of veggies - I prefer broccoli, cauliflower, cukes the best!
