I agree with Jean. If you can find duck or chicken feet they make the best gelled up stock I"ve been able to come up with. They do look a bit scary tho after browning but that add flavor (thanks y0u for the tip)

Do you really EAT them? I've just used them for "flavoring" and toss them like I would the vegetables. I like the tip to brown them first; have not done that, but will try it next time.

Nancy LC had chicken feet as her avatar a while back. It was creepy.

I buy chicken feet for my raw fed dog, and since one of my favourite fooods are crispy wing tips and the knob on the end of drumsticks, I've roasted and tried the feet.
Conclusion - hardly any flavour compared to the wings and knobs. Still, I believe there are health benefits to eating skin, bone and connective tissue, so I throw one in with my roasted chicken every once in a while.

Wow. Do you eat them bones and all or just pick off the flesh and skin?

I think of myself as pretty adventurous with food (and my husband has eaten insects in Mexico and liked them), but this is new territory for me.

I don't eat the bones. I just chew off the skin and whatever meat and gristle they have on them. They are good with a little sea salt sprinkled on them. Sort of like eating the neck bones of the chicken.

I eat all the bones. Same with chicken wing tips. Trick is to get them crisp enough, then they don't splinter.

Dithered about which forum this new article belongs, but starting here since much of it involves Weight Watchers, Oprah, fat acceptance and the myths of "dieting". Long article so assuming this may be the cover story for the NYT Magazine this Sunday.

I managed to read the whole article. What is completely left out is any discussion of the science of low carb eating. I'm left unsure what the point of the article is beyond, yes losing weight is hard but whatcha gonna do. Go to Weight Watchers I guess because being fat is hard too.

The very first thing I did after reading the article was look up a diet that Oprah said she'd tried "banana-hot-dog-egg diet".

Don't think that was the purpose of this article.

But I found it humorous that it was my first reaction.
Looking for a quick fix, no, but it was one I'd never heard of and I have a couple boxes of different diet books. Especially the tiny ones at check out counters.

I have not read the article yet, not sure I will. However, I did work for WW for a period of time in the late 70's. One of the things I learned was that WW is such a successful company $$$wise, is because people fail, and they come back to do it all over again. I chose to work for them for the simple reason that it kept me totally on track, you were expected as a group leader, to always be at goal of below and to be a roll model for other members. It worked, but that was also the reason that I left, enormous pressure to always be at your very best, people were watching...I have to say that when I found out Oprah was involved in the company, I knew it was all about the $$$, and that is just not right.
Have a great day, ttyl
