Well, you can always get a TPO AB, Free T4, Free T3 and see if your thyroid is 'up to par' and if you have Hashimoto's.
I'm more used to seeing holistic pracs just give iodine 'instead of replacing the thyroid hormones' thinking that works in all cases.
When you have Hashimoto's, that's autoimmune and it kills off the thyroid....giving iodine would be like putting gas in a car with no motor and expecting it to run.
I would also think your doctor giving YOU iodine would TEST for your levels and also know that the thyroid, if ok, will 'uptake' that iodine and you have to be tested for THAT too, cuz it can 'make your thyroid slow and trigger hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism'.
What do they do when you have Graves hyperthyroidism? They give you RAI (radioactive iodine yes) to KILL the thyroid.
Iodine can be good or bad...but it's one of those things you might want to be tested for and levels rather then just 'taking it'.
In your case, the good might outweigh the bad for sure...and I know myself that I have to take some meds that have some really nasty side effects....you do what you HAVE to do...but you also need to know your levels as you are taking that and I'm hoping your doctor is doing that.
