"I need to loose weight."

I see this one on these forums a lot. Can we please try harder people? You need to lose weight, and then you will have loose clothing.

It's saddening to see how bad people are at spelling the simple stuff.

And for what it's worth, I'll amend my previous post:

"I only eat organic."

What they are really saying: "I have too much disposable income, and I would rather blow my money on questionably healthy stuff that mocks proven, sustainable, high-yield farming methods."

"Lite."

What they are really saying: We've taken out all the natural fatty good stuff and replaced it with corn syrup and corn starch, in order to fool you into thinking you'll lose weight by choosing this product. And we're probably going to charge you more for it too. And we'll just make up words as we go along.

"It's the carbs."

As in it's only the carbs. Does a high fat diet make a line of rats fat? Did it have sugar, what what was the carbohydrate content, valid questions. But a combination of high fat and high sugar can be fattening, even when high sugar or high fat in and of themselves, are not. Even if sugar/carbohydrate were necessary conditions for fattening, that wouldn't mean that high fat didn't contribute once those conditions were met.

Of course this is the problem with the gold standard of changing only one variable, it may make it clear that that variable is making the difference, but the result is very specific to the control. There is no "control and intervention" just two interventions with a single variable.

"Eat healthy" or "Eat a healthy diet."

This advice is meaningless and no one agrees on what "healthy" is.
