Default South Beach check in for <<**January 2009**>>

Happy New Year!!

Here is today's Daily Dish:

Quote:
Ring in the New Year WIth the South Beach Diet
New Year's is a time of reflection and resolutions. If you're like millions of other Americans, chances are you've already thought long and hard about the changes you want to make, one of which may be to embark on a new, healthier lifestyle.
Here are four reasons why January is the perfect month to adopt the South Beach Diet lifestyle (if you haven't already). For South Beach Diet veterans, it's also a great time to renew your commitment to healthy eating and an active lifestyle.
1. You've had your fill of tempting treats. The holidays are joyous and a time for indulging, but sometimes the indulgences seem, well, redundant. As the holiday season nears an end, you'll be tired of eyeing (and nibbling on) sugar cookies, mashed potatoes, glazed ham, and all the other festive foods that appear (and reappear) between Thanksgiving and New Year's. Healthy eating will therefore be a welcome change — and, because of the flexibility of the South Beach Diet, a doable change you can make for life!
2. There's plenty of time to prepare for the next holiday season. You've got a whole year to adapt to the South Beach Diet healthy-weight way of life. By this time next year, you'll be well versed in the principles of the program. You're also likely to be healthier and to have lost weight, so you'll know how to make better food choices — and know which sweets, like dark chocolate, are delicious and healthy splurges.
3. You won't be alone. With thousands of people resolving to eat healthier and exercise more, you'll find lots of encouragement and support on SouthBeachDiet.com's Message Boards. You can also meet new friends who are starting on healthy eating and exercise plans at the same time as you — making it even easier to team up with someone so you can help each other stay on track.
4. You can take advantage of SouthBeachDiet.com's New Year's Challenge. Get healthier and lose weight with this special 90-day program designed to help you rethink your relationship with food. The Challenge is a SouthBeachDiet.com exclusive, and is free for subscribers. Not a member? Subscribe to SouthBeachDiet.com today and sign up for the New Year's Challenge. Members also have access to more than 1,000 delicious recipes, expert advice, a supportive community, and more.

This weighin and check in thread is open to all who follow the South Beach Diet. Newbies are very welcome to join us.

If you are new and want to join our weighin, please add your name to the list in alphabetical order. We generally weighin on Mondays. Please, always find the very last list posted to NOT lose anyone elses weight.

If you are new and have read the book, great! If you are new and have not read it yet, please do so asap! All the food lists and meal plan charts for phases I and II can be found by clicking on my journal button and going to the very first page. Please print them up to use as reference as you learn the plan.

We eat meals and snacks 5-6 times a day, so intermittent fasting does not go along with the South Beach way. Also, very low calorie and very low carb do not go with the SB way. There are other sections of this site that support those ways of eating.

So...if you want to join us and eat the SB way, you are very welcome!!

I wish all a very successful 2009!! You can do this...I know because I did it 4 yrs ago.

Although it's only Jan. 2, I'm posting a little early so that I'm accountable again, starting today. After 3 weeks of slowly going more and more off-plan, it's not pretty. . . . but it's a new day and a new year to get back on track. Happy New Year to all.
Linda

My husband and I are officially starting SBD Monday the 5th. I'm excited and pumped. The local Food Pantry is going to have a couple of bags of food after I'm thru clearing my cupboards!

Hi everybody,

Well I've been away from the beach for a long time and I put on a bunch of weight. But I'm back to the point where I'm excited to come back and get back to my old good-looking healthy feeling self. I don't know how regularly I'll be posting on the forums, but I at least wanted to say a hi to everyone and wish y'all a happy new year. Maybe you can add me back to the weight in list? My girlfriend and I will both be on the beach for a while, and I'll be starting in at 245lbs. Goal is to get to 200.

Cheers everyone!!! And a special hi to Judy :-D

Hi All,
I've also been away from SBD for a while but I'm trying to kickstart my weight loss and also find something that is focused on good carbs/good fats and not too extreme. I'm doing it as a vegetarian this time around and planning on going vegan once I hit Phase 2 and can add some whole grains and fruit for variety. I'm starting phase 1 tomorrow as well. My hope is to lose around 5 pounds a month so that I lose the 25 pounds I gained through stress eating these last few years (after losing 30 with low carbing).

I'll try to check in nearly every day since it helps with accountability .

Tam

I'm so glad to be back to a normal schedule this week. I've missed all my daily walking since most of my clients have been off work for the holidays. I'm really relieved that its all over...until next year!

On a positive note, I recently got a DVD by Jillian Micheals, 30 Day Shred. It has 3 levels of 20 minutes workout on it and I've started to do it, level 1. I can do anything for 20 minutes.!!

Welcome Tammay!!
Welcome back Serene!

A true stall is no loss for 8 weeks in a row.

Watch the feta cheese in greek salads as its very high in sodium.

Got it!
Thanks for the advice Judy!
I plan on this lil "rough patch" ending this week.
2 weeks and no loss is enough for me!
