Thanks moje, thank god i didnt eat that pizza or any high carb food for that matter, i think im too afraid to feel off the wagon. Sometimes i need a little encouragment.

We did make the low carb cauliflower pizza with my bf and it was mildly good, though nothing like original pizza

thanks for the advice!

If you do nothing, you'll at the very least stay where you are, and more likely, you'll put on more and more weight over time.

Speaking for myself, I'm not sure what my ideal weight is going to be, I only know it's less than I am now. I have a general goal, but I'm always ready to say either it's not enough when I get there, or perhaps I'll look the way I want before that point. The important thing is this: You can spend DECADES not doing anything about excess weight….and many of us on these forums have done exactly that. So my advice is don't do that. Take control of things NOW, change your eating….what you eat and how much you eat. It's only FOOD….don't let it control you. You need to control your food. But if what you stuff into your mouth is more important than your health and how your body looks, then your choice will be to keep dawdling around with this, year after year, decade after decade. You DO have to make a choice, you really can't have both. This took me a long time to learn and accept, and now I wish I hadn't taken so darn long figuring it out.

Losing weight is actually rather simple, but at the same time, it's not exactly easy. What you need to do can be stated simply, but the hard part is in your head. It takes focus, determination, , work, and consistency. No cheating because that puts you in a yo-yo weight loss program. Also you must have patience, because weight loss is NOT and CANNOT be fast, and don't ever get duped into believing it is. Slow and steady wins the game. The fact is, most people don't work on the emotional aspect of weight loss, and they give up too quickly because it's all too hard.

It's good to not put your mind in a place of feeling deprived. It helps me to think "I can eat any darn thing I want, but I CHOOSE to not eat all the sugar/carb things that I know make me gain weight. I CHOOSE this because eating on the Atkins plan makes it the easiest it can possibly be to lose weight. As long as I eat this way, I have very low hunger, I eat less, my cravings go away after a couple of weeks, and this state makes me able to stick with this way of eating. And I'm going to choose this way of eating for now without attaching emotion to it. It's how I eat."

Again speaking for myself, losing weight successfully depends on your mindset. Put yourself in the right mindset and it all becomes much much easier to do.

Thanks CMC, this is a great post!!!

I might not be obese, or even that overweight (my BMI is 26), but my measurments put me at the obese and health risk category and make it impossible for me to find clothes

My belly is over 40 inches

And my waist is 36 inches!!!!

this apparently put me at risk to many diseases

I gain MOST of my weight in my mid section, and i know how dangerous it is, and even now, after almost 2 months of dieting, my measurments in the mid section are terrible. Like i said in older posts of mine, my belly IS and has been HUGE for many years now, even in my early twenties, when i weigh around 130, i had a huge belly compared to the rest of my body, and now my belly got bigger and bigger and i often been mistaken as a pregnant woman and look HUGE and bloated

this improved only a bit with low carb, but im still huge in the midsection, hence the 40 inches waist

any advice for this? its sad and frustrating and it makes me impossible to find pants that fit

Lulee, you were underweight, Honey, really: you are 5'9.25 inches tall, .25" shorter than my daughter, LOL. When she was a teen, she went from 5'2' to her present height in about a year and 2 months. And she was underweight. We couldn't find clothes to fit her, because if they fit in the hips and bust, they were way too short in the legs and the sleeves.

Her senior year in HS, we bought her winter jacket in the men's dept, because it was the only place we could find one with long enough sleeves that she didn't swim in.

You still need to find out what you weigh now, and what your measurements are now, so you have at least a late baseline.

You may find, because you ARE in your 30's, not your teens or your 20's, that 150 lbs (about 68 kilos) looks fantastic on you. And then, practice looking in the mirror, and telling yourself how wonderful you look.

One more thing. If you are like me, and, really, a lot of people, the reason you can't find anything that fits is because you are looking in the size you believe you should be wearing. Am I right? I did NOT want to go up to a size 14. So I would go through 50 pairs of jeans, just to find the one size 12 that I could zip. Now, they have been sent to Goodwill, because they were falling off.

You're in the process of losing. But you want to feel good about yourself as you progress. So, find something that fits and you feel pretty in. And wear it, proudly. Then, as you continue to lose on your low carb/high fat way of eating, you'll be even happier the day you realize that your jeans that fit perfectly when you bought them, are now too big, right out of the wash!

Lulee, I was like you...a very thin child and young adult. My family called me "Skinnybones". In my 30s I started gaining weight. In january of this year (age 61) I was up to 179 and on medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, low thyroid, and prediabetes. You don't have to make the same journey. Folks on this forum will help you and steer you right. But it's your journey. You are at the helm.

Some of those medications probably helped cause the last condition.

The best advice I have for a round belly is to stay low carb. We all store fat in different ways--but eventually, we all store it in our bellies.

I used to have a 24" waist. I don't expect to get that back--I'm 64, and have had four kids. But I was at 34" two years ago, and today I was at 29.5". Belly fat is the easiest for some people to put on, and they tend to lose it more slowly. But now that you know what your waist measurement is, you can check the progress every couple of weeks.

Last winter, for all sorts of reasons, none of them good, I ate a lot of carbs in the form of dried fruit, mostly. My waist went back up to almost 32", again. Your will keep dropping. Be proud of sticking to it, and be proud of asking for help when you needed it.

That suggestion to try the Pizza Quiche in the recipe section is really a great idea. Even my son liked it. Besides that, there are tons of low carb sweets there too. And, you can mix it up to give yourself a break from all the meat by looking for low carb alternatives.

Brilliant post, CMCM! It's a sound message to any low carber. We ought to make it a sticky somewhere. Thanks for putting your thoughts together for the rest of us.
