As a bit of background - I have been on Synthroid for hypothyroidism for 10 yrs (just turned 31!) and have finally found a dr who switched me to NTH
. He told me to give the South Beach Diet a go, and I can't even begin to describe how very verrrrrry happy I am with the results so far.
I have been overweight (50 lbs, give or take) since highschool and unable to lose weight no matter what I tried. I feel like I am echoing a lot of folks on here - but I somehow managed to gain weight on low-cal (<1200 cal/day) diets. Gross. And seriously disheartening. And for anyone who's been dealing w/thyroid issues knows, I've had all the depression/ hair thinning/ brain fog/ etc, etc, etc that goes along with it, as well.
So to actually be losing weight - and at a reasonable rate too - is SO exciting! Yes, it's still early into this new way of looking at food, but I am so bolstered by both my successes on the scale (and in my jeans) and my thyroid issues finally beginning to resolve themselves that I have zero intention of going back to that SAD (or in my case SCanadianD) evereverever.
So far as I can tell, my biggest challenge is that my food sensitivity tests came back with the results that I should cut out dairy and eggs, as well as gluten. The SBD has a lot of dairy and eggs on it, so I've been doing what I can, but I am probably still turning to cheese more than I should. Ah well - guess I'll figure it out as I go...
So, there you go! In a nutshell - one month in and almost 10% of my goal weight gone. I am in love with lowcal!!
