Default could this be right?

I was at a health food store in Beaver Pa. last week and they had 8-grain bread with 1.476 grams of carbs per slice and bagels at 1.5 grams for each bagel. They both taste wonderful! It is hard to believe the carb count is true! They are made at a bakery in Pittsburg called "Simple Treats Bakery". Has anyone else used these products and what was your experience with them?

I haven't seen this product before, but if you want to know if it could possibly be true, do check all the information (Cals, Protein, Fat, Carbs, Fiber) on the Nutrition Facts label and run it through the Hidden Carb calculator, available from the orange menu bar above, right here on this website, click on Tools. Let us know what it has to say!

Default Trader Joe's Has New Low Carb Bread - pretty cheap!

I was reading Trader Joe's newsletter (Fearless Flyer) and found that they have a new low-carb (4 carbs/slice) bread that is supposed to taste pretty good and is only $3.29/loaf. It's called Food for Life Low Carb Bread. You can find it on page 9 of their online Fearless Flyer page.

I haven't tried it myself yet -- still chugging along on Induction, you know, but you can bet I'll give it a try later on!

They also have La Tortilla Factory Carb-Cutting Whole Wheat tortillas (3 grams net carbs/tortilla) for only $1.49/package.

I love that store!

I love the tortillas, but I've been ordering mine online. I was just in Trader Joe's last weekend and didn't see them. I'll have to look closer.

It's a great place for frozen fish steaks and they also carry nitrite free meats.

Thanks for the heads up!

Donald

Not all Trader Joe's are crated equal, the products they carry and the size of the stores differ significantly region to region. Here in the Boston area the stores are quite small and a much more limited selection of good stuff.

Default Ahhh..

Ahhh, that's what I thought, pattyl. It's not like me to overlook anything low-carb!

I'm probably shopping at one of those smaller stores...

I was in one of our Trader Joe’s here in Tucson on Tuesday and looked for the low carb tortillas and did not see any. Next time I’m in there I will ask the manager if they are going to stock them. I would not have bought some anyway as I have four packages of the burrito size on the way from nutrition.com.

Default Trader Joe's is Great

They also sell Carbolite brand chocolate bars. They only have 1-2 net carbs per bar, so you can feel like you just ate a whole candy bar without the guilt! They have Chocolate Crisp, Chocolate Peanut Butter (YUM), Chocolate Almond, to name a few. Just don't eat more than one a day...it can give you a little gas, not too bad though. Thanks for the bread tip, I'll have to try it out!

Default Trader Joe's is great but....

I get a lot of stuff at TJs...they've got several of the Atkins mixes (blueberry muffin, cornbread and brownies) for $3.99...mine also started carrying the Atkins Steak sauce and Teriyaki sauce...they also have "Hip Hip Hooray Bars" which are SF frozen ice cream bars (actually Tofutti)...they taste awesome, but are definitely a maintenance treat...

The Low Carb? I bought it previously at Whole Foods and in my mind it is just awful...the Atkins sourdough bread mix is much better. Another I've found is a "sort of low carb" bread available at Albertson's in the LA?Orange County area...it's in the "fresh" bakery section and is made by Alvarado Street Bakery...it's 10g per slice (hence "sort of low carb") and tastes pretty good...not something you want to make french toast with, but excellent for egg salad and tuna salad.

I just bought my first loaf of food for life bread at Trader joes yesterday. The texture is a bit odd, so I dont think I'll be using it for sandwiches. But it makes a pretty good peice of toast. I just had some with butter and peanut butter. It felt like a splurge- and all total is was about 10 grams of carbs. Not bad for feeling like I had cheated!

Default Food for Life bread

I used a few pieces of this bread to make stuffing/dressing for Thanksgiving then threw the rest away (after freezing it for three months hoping I could find it in my heart to eat it). I think it tastes awful -- such a strong soy flavor and a weird texture.
