I don't know the rules of Bernstein, but 27g grams sounds like a lot to me. It's well over the total daily carb limit for Atkins Induction, for example. It's also the same amount as an 8oz bottle of Coke. Wheat and rice have very similar levels of carbs, so if you want rice you'd be better off having rice. Rice doesn't have gluten at least. Gluten is what makes wheat damaging and addictive for some people.
Low-carb diets work differently for different people. Some find that the occasional "cheat" makes them feel like the diet is not too limiting, and actually helps them stay on it. For others, even the tiniest amount of forbidden foods leads to a nosedive of cravings. I would suggest going without any grains for a week or two, and see if you still miss them. If you do, then go ahead and have some sushi or tabouli in moderation.
