Default carb count of cooked cracked wheat

Hi,

I love tabouli salad and someone told me that cooked cracked wheat (bulgar wheat) is high carb. The label says that it has 27 g of carbs and 7 grams of fibre for 1/4 cup serving. This doesn't sound high to me...I am trying to find something that will satisfy my rice craving...this could be the answer if the carb count is OK. Any info?

Welcome!
I've tried to eat 1/4 cup of tabouli salad and found it impossible to stop at 1/4 cup. I find that any wheat does this to me, trigger my apppetite, so I just don't eat it any longer.
As you are following Bernstein's plan, what does it say in that book about the wheat carb count? I don't know Bernstein's plan so don't know how 20 grams of a grain carb are thought about.
Sorry.

I don't know the rules of Bernstein, but 27g grams sounds like a lot to me. It's well over the total daily carb limit for Atkins Induction, for example. It's also the same amount as an 8oz bottle of Coke. Wheat and rice have very similar levels of carbs, so if you want rice you'd be better off having rice. Rice doesn't have gluten at least. Gluten is what makes wheat damaging and addictive for some people.

Low-carb diets work differently for different people. Some find that the occasional "cheat" makes them feel like the diet is not too limiting, and actually helps them stay on it. For others, even the tiniest amount of forbidden foods leads to a nosedive of cravings. I would suggest going without any grains for a week or two, and see if you still miss them. If you do, then go ahead and have some sushi or tabouli in moderation.

Considering Bernstein is 6/12/12 carbs B/L/D, the tabouli salad would totally knock you carb wise out of the ball-park. That's more carbs than you L&D combined.

20 grams of net carbs per 1/4 cup in my opinion isn't getting your carb bang for the buck, but that's just my opinion.

If you're craving rice, the only thing that is going to satisfy it is to either eat it (which I probably wouldn't due since you list Bernstein as your plan, you must either be diabetic or teetering on the edge) or go without and rid yourself of the craving.

JMO.

Progress not perfection.
