Default Thyroid-boosting supplements

Hey TrainerDan!

I've read all your posts on ECA stacks with fascination. I tried one; it's not for me. I am far too sensitive to caffeine.

But I noticed that a couple of times you talked about using a thyroid-boosting supplement in conjunction with ECA stacks. Would these things be useful on their own, without ECA? The advertising for one says that after months of dieting your thyroid slows down.

I'm on my eighth month of LC. How would I know if my thyroid has slowed down? Are these things meant mainly for body-builders? I'm just your average, obese LCer, recently committed to a serious walking program.

Have a great time on vacation!

Allison

Allison, you can monitor your thyroid by taking your rising body temp. Symptoms of an underactive thyroid will include a low body temp on rising that doesnt get much higher during the course of the day. Your temp should start off low in the morning, get higher during the day (peeking in late afternoon) then lower as the night progresses. A waking body temp of less than 97.8 is usually a sign that your thyroid is underactive.

You can find out more about thyroid disease here, http://thyroid.about.com/cs/hypothyroidism/index.htm It's a great resource.

Sorry, I cannot help you with the supplements - But I am certain Dan can.

Thanks for replying Nat. I'll start taking my temp. The link looks loaded with information -- I'll find a couple hours to read up. I've always wondered about thyroid.

WOW..My temp never gets to 97.8 - Not even when I'm sick. I had my thyroid tested and it was on the very very low end of NORMAL. Because it was in the range of normal, they did not recommend any treatment.

All other signs point to being very health, which I am thankful.

I'm gonna try some of these new ideas Dan has given me. I'll keep you posted.

julieK ...

Glad that you have gotten some ideas from me. Let me know how it goes.

FYI, I am ALMOST finished writing my report on Metabolism Tips and Tricks ... The whole process is laid out step-by-step of what to do, what to take, and how to eat to keep your metabolism running high and fat burning at maximum.

I plan to offer a special deal to members of the board to get it (VERY cheap). It's currently 60+ pages and growing ... Full of good info.

Stay tuned ...

Dan! Welcome back!

Funny, I was going to try to convince you to write a book. Seriously. Maybe this will be the first few chapters of the book. And, for heaven's sake, don't feel bad about expecting to be paid for your work. We all get paid for our work. Charge something reasonable. You don't have to go dirt cheap.

BTW, your new picture looks great!

We will all be looking forward to you tip and tricks. I've always sworn I have NO metabolism.

Welcome back, Dan If your holiday was anything like mine, I imagine you'd rather be back on the beach - coming home is sometimes not all it's cracked up to be!

I've been doing a little research on my own into thyroid boosting supplements - can you give me your thoughts on T2-Pro by Biotest? Am I wasting my time? Would I be better off going with guggulsterones? (Thyro slim AM/PM isnt available in Canada - I've tried and tried)

Thx a bunch
Nat

I should report back my experience with using one of these products. After misreading one of TrainerDan's posts, I bought Thyrolean by Prolab (he recommended Thyroslim). It has 15 mg of ephedra in it and only 10 mg of caffeine from green tea, which is unusually low for a thermogenic. The thyroid supporting part is:

gum guggle extract
phosphorous
phosphatidylcholine
garcinia cambogia
L-Tyrosine
citrus aurantium

For a week before I bought it, I compulsively took my temperature throughout the day. It was usually between 96.5 and 96.8. A couple of times it went into the 95 range and once was as high as 97.1.

Once I started taking the stuff, I again took my temperature obsessively. Now I'm usually 97.8 to 98.1 degrees. I go as low as 97.0 and once I actually made it to 98.6! It seems like an improvement to me. I don't know that it will have any big fat-burning effect, but I think I'll keep it up for a while.

I also mean to try something without the ephedra and will let you know my results when I do.

Allison
