Default Reduced Carbs Vs. Low Carbs?

I had Western Bagel claim that their bagels were REDUCED CARBS and not LOW CARB. I think this is just deceptive advertising. The only thing they did was removed the sugar and replaced it with inulin, so it should have said SUGAR FREE bagels.

Anyone else irked by this new, what appears to be deceptive run for our pocketbook?

The container of bagels only had 10 oz of product and the normal full retail price is $2.99 (wow!)

The company further claimed they were gearing this product toward diabetics but from what I've read, most of the diabetic associations are realizing low carb is best for diabetics (not this silly "reduced carb" the company was standing behind).

Yep, blowing off some steam.

I don't blame you for blowing off steam. Our low carb diet is important to us so it really irks me too when I see this kind of come on. I have a friend who bakes real low carb stuff to sell and it is not easy. Taking out the sugar just doesn't cut it.

You are totally right about the diabetic association and carbs. Nearly every woman in my family has diabetes (not me, thanks to Atkin's) so I know that flour/bagel is virtually sugar.

We must remain vigilant. Especially since low carbing is hurting a lot of important lobbies, like the sugar lobby for example. So the FDA is under a lot of pressure to change labelling rules and other rules for what ingredients are allowed and called. Where there is big money involved, and especially in election years, there is a pressure for deception.
