Default Advice needed regarding Gestational Diabetes

Just a quick history. I was pregnant three years ago and had no problem with gestational diabetes (GD), but ended up with full fledged Eclampsia, siezure and all. Now I am currently 39 years old and 30 weeks pregnant. My blood pressure has been great with one upswing last week that seems to have corrected itself now. Today I had my blood sugar tested and it was 202, so I am being diagnosed with GD and have to go see a specialist soon.

I am looking for ideas of what I can do to help myself and my baby along. In the beginning of the pregnancy I ate controlled carb for four months and then I started to screw around a bit and then a lot. When my BP jumped up last week, that was a wake up call for me and started back to following maintainace Atkins and aspects of Dr. Brewer's Diet. My blood pressure returned back to normal. I have not ever had any problems with blood sugar in the past, pregnant or not, and then suddenly today it jumps up. Today is the first time that high sugar has show up in the urine test I take every week. In fact this week, I had a urine test on Monday too and no high blood sugar.

Has anyone dealt with this or know anything about it? I am just sure that I am going to end up having to take injections, because with GD the blood sugar levels continue to rise as the pregnancy progresses. They recommend cutting back carbs and if I do that very much now, I will end up in Ketosis, which is not good for the baby. Oh what an evil cycle!

Thanks for listening to my rambling.
