There are a lot of great books out there that examine the "Cholesterol Myth" and how the mania about cholesterol came about in the first place and got so entrenched. The total number we mostly get with a simple test can be very deceiving. I myself have always had high cholesterol, or so it seems. But my HDL is extremely high (95 last time), my LDL is high (260 last time) but I demanded a VAP test to find out what type of LDL particles I have going on, and it showed I have the non-problematic big fluffy particles rather than the tiny dense ones that build up as plaque. My trigs are low (but that number is transitory anyway, depending on what you have eaten lately). In any case, once I got the detailed cholesterol test my doctor immediately said she wasn't worried any more about my "big" number. Previous to this test, she had suggested that I consider statins. NO WAY!
By the way, when you eat very low carb you are obviously eliminating SUGAR…and sugar is THE big culprit for lowering the protective HDL.
