Default Interesting Site about Eggs

Hiya

This is more a site for the UK members.

I went to the Supermarket the other day and foung some eggs which claimed to be naturally rich in Omega 3 (not enriched afterwards). I got curious, and as they had a web-site address on the egg carton, I wandered over there today.

It sounds really interesting (some info about Omega 3 and the Omega 3:6 Ratio may be interesting to non-uk members as well).

Have a look and tell me what you think. Is it just a crafty marketing claim, or is this really the ideal egg (well, not ideal, as it still contains Omega 6, but as good as it gets) ?

Greetings

Thanks so much for posting this informative site. For those of us who are sensitive to too much omega-6, this is very helpful. I find the whole subject to be quite complicated so the more times I read about it and the more different explanations I can get, the better I understand it.
I just can't give up eggs, so I have been taking lots of fish oil capsules to counteract the omega-6. That helps but I am going to see if I can find a source for this type egg. If all else fails, maybe I can talk my husband in to getting chickens!

Exclamation It may not work...

If I recall correctly, this omega-3 in the eggs results from what the chickens were fed. However, there may a problem with the actual omega-3 absorption by humans who may not get as many as they think they might get by consuming those eggs... (Atrsy, there’s nothing inherently wrong with omega-6 fatty acids but ideally, humans should maintain a 1:1 ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids but, due to the very high levels of omega-6s and the very low levels of omega-3s of our modern foods —example: grass-fed beef or game contains high omega-3 levels; grain-fed beef contains none. Wild fish contains high omega-3 levels; farmed fish contains none, etc.—, that ratio sometimes is 20:1!)
