Default Sugar alcohol problem...

When I entered a Hershey 1 Carb Bar I got this:

Quote:
The nutritional date you have entered are incorrect. Please make sure to enter valid data.

You have entered 120 calories, but the data entered totals to 157 calories. The formula to calculate calories is as follows:

Calories = Carbs x 4 + Protein x 4 + Fat x 9 + Alcohol x 6.93

The data you entered comes to:

Calories = 157 = 15 * 4 + 4 * 4 + 9 * 9 + 0 * 6.93 = 157

Possible reasons are:

1. You did not enter the label data accurately, re-check to ensure accuracy

2. The label may have listed carbs by weight (including fiber) and not by difference. In this case, subtract the fiber from the carb count

3. The label is incorrect, or contains hidden carbs.

It tooks like it's multiplying "alcohol" even though it shouldn't be (because of the sugar alcohols). The sugar alcohols are still part of the carb count, not a seperate thing.

It's multiplying alcoho by zero, which comes to zero, so it's not about alcohol.

The formula does not factor in any sugar alcohol, just the carbs.

There's something off in the label, as it doesn't add up, as entered, to the total calories declared.

but it says it's mulitplying alcohol by 6.93

Quote:
Alcohol x 6.93

that doesn't look like zero. If there is something off on my label that sucks, you think you'd be able to trust Hershey.........

The first line gives the standard formula to calculate calories:

Quote:
Calories = Carbs x 4 + Protein x 4 + Fat x 9 + Alcohol x 6.93

The second line fills in the values to the formula:

Quote:
Calories = 157 = 15 * 4 + 4 * 4 + 9 * 9 + 0 * 6.93 = 157

So it's multiplying zero grams of alcohol by 6.93, which comes to zero.

That part is fine, since it does it for all food items if there's no alcohol.

So the first number, 15 is filled in for carbs. Then come 4 grams of protein, and then 9 grams of fat, plus zero grams of alcohol.

So I take it that the label stated 15 g for carbs, 4 g for protein and 9 g for fat, to a total of 120 calories.

If that's what the label declared, then they're off by more than 20% as it doesn't add up as declared.

In most cases I've seen, manufacturers would under-declare, or hide carbs. In this case, they seem to have over counted something, if the calorie count they listed is correct.
