Question Margarine

I know as a general rule, margarine is a 'bad fat.' My question is concerning those that have twice the % of monounsaturates as polyunsaturates. The label does not list the ominous words "partially hydrogenated" but it does say "modified" canola oil. Is this the same thing as partially hydrogenated?

Technically it's not the same thing - but it's just as bad. Doing anything to a polyunsaturate except cold pressing and storing it in a dark container damages it. After reading "Fats that Heal Fats that Kill" by Udo Erasmus I won't use anything but butter - on veggies or to fry in. I recommend the book very highly.

Default But what about.......

I'm allergic to butter. Cow dairy of any kind, even small amounts. Once in awhile, I like the flavor of margarine. Maybe a couple of times a month. Have any options for me? Yes, I'm whining. I'd love a suggestion or two.

Extra-virgin olive oil, flavoured flax seed oil, nut oils for drizzling...

If it's the dairy solids you are allergic to, you can "clarify" butter to remove the dairy aspect. Here is how to do it...

Clarifying Butter

Default Thanks Karen

I don't know what it is in the milk I'm allergic to. I've developed a nasty excema on my eyelid when I have anything with any dairy in it at all. Good practice for counting carbs.

Thanks anyway, but I think I'll pass. Just got the excema nearly cleared up with strong cortizone creme.
