I have checked other GNCs but that is the only one in the South Hills that carries it. Apparently, it is not an item that the company stores can carry, so you have to find a franchise store and not all franchises carry the same items. They had a big display of it in there and it was $3.29 a box, I think, but if you have one of the GNC Gold cards, you can save $0.60 a box during the discount period alotted for the card taking it to $2.69.

OK here is my experiment:

In a half a bag(4 oz.) of minicarb(eat well, be well) chocolate chips this is the counts
600 calories
38 g. Fat
60 g. carbs
45 g. fiber
15 g. net carbs
15 g. protein

My homemade version
1 square baker's unsweetened baking chocolate
2 Tablespoons heavy cream
1/4 c. PolyD Plus

Melt chocolate square in small bowl in microwave for 45 seconds
add cream and polyD to chocolate and mix till smooth.
Spread out chocolate on large plate to about 1/8 in thick.
put plate in freezer for about 15 min or until chocolate is firm.
then cut with pizza cutter in about 1/4 in squares.
freeze for 15 more minutes then lift off plate with spatula and break into the squares.

yeild 4 oz.

300 calories
24 g. Fat
52 g. Carbs
44 g. fiber
8 g. net Carbs
4 g. protein

I have a hard time telling the difference in taste.
With 1/2 the calories and a savings of 7 carbs and a quick prep time I guess make my own.

E-Mail I recieved from Eat Well Be Well Foods today:

Kevin,
The Chocolate Chips are currently under consideration for bringing back. In the meanwhile we have two great chocolate bars that are sugar-free and with no sugar alcohols under the Eat Well Be Well label.
As for our new line of sugar-free, no sugar alcohol, diabetic-friendly products under the Eat Well Be Well brand... please go to our website www.eatwellbewell.com to see these fine products.
Thank you for writing in.

Best Regards,

Jim Lippincott

Subject: No sugar alcohol chocolate chips

Please tell me you plan to continue making a product similar to:

MINICARB No sugar alcohol semi sweet chocolate chips.

They have a fan base and it would be a shame to lose such a fine product.

Thank you

Kevin

It has lactitol as its main sweetener which is derived from natural milk sugars. It is a SA and is better than some and not as good as others. they also have acesulfame K, sucralose in them but are the last 2 ingredients. overall i would try them for the price. they are much better than the 1's with manitol in them.

Angry Hersheys has discontinued the 1g bars.

Hersheys has discontinued the 1g bars.
I have phoned Hersheys to ask to bring them back.
http://www.hersheys.com/contactus/

In my local supermarket, the Eat Well Be Well bars are smaller than the minicarb bars I got from netrition.com a month or two ago, and cost $1.25 per 1.2 oz (34g) bar. I have emailed Minicarb and expressed the opinion that the price is too high, and reminded them that recipes for LC chocolate nut bark exist, and will be used given strong enough motivation.

So...I think there is a business opportunity for someone to put out a LC chocolate bar that is less expensive than the current competitors, with reasonable sweeteners of course.

Lactitol is one of the most laxating sugar alcohols you can eat. I can eat just about as much maltitol as I like but if I start consuming lactitol, forget about it, I'm bathroom bound. Maybe in the context of a few chips per cookie these are okay, but I'd be careful... very very careful.

Lactitol products should have warnings three, four times the size of maltitol ones. Heck, the warning should take up the whole wrapper

I have been wondering why I couldn't find them at wal-mart even though they told me they were going to restock them. I did find them at a local grocery store about a month ago and they were on sale for 99 cents apiece so I bought about 30.

Anyway when I saw your post I ran over to the store and to my luck nobody had bought any since I had a month ago. Phew!!
So I bought out the rest of their stock.....176 bars(10 full boxes and a few stragglers).....I figuared they will freeze and good erythritol is becoming harder to find I suspect because mantatol is much cheaper for the manufacturer.

So thank you for the tip at least I have a stash now.....LOL

Depends on the person I guess cause maltitol bends me over were I have never noticed any effect from Lactitol.
