Question Is there a good Guide for items to order when eating out?

Is there a good Guide for items to order when eating out?

We are meeting family at a new restaurant and would like some list of ideas to get when eating out. Most of the time I know but this time I am trying to figure it out.

What kind of restaurant is it Nate?

I think you should be fine going with a meat and a vegetable. And I'd probably stay away from sauced meats or vegetables.

A couple of weeks ago I went to an Outback and ordered a salad with steak on it. I read in the description that it had some kind of sweetened pecans on it but I figured I would just pick those off and give them to my dining friend. Well, it came out with essentially crushed sweetened pecans, lol. So, no picking off and they were totally out of place in a steak and blue cheese salad.

Good luck!

Can you google the restaurant? Sometimes they'll have nutritional facts listed with their food items....

I've gone to restaurants and ordered successfully off the "gluten free" menu that many seem to have these days.

I've also gone out to eat, and decided I wouldn't after reading the menu and just enjoyed the company and a glass of unsweetened ice tea... Imma bit paranoid about what I eat since I started this incredible WOE...

Wishing you all the best on your journey!

I eat out all the time and find low-carb so easy. Steak and salad, fish and veggies, burgers without buns, seafood, egg omelets, salad bar. No matter what restaurant, you'll find something on that menu where you can say "hold the potatoes or rice or pasta" and you'll be good to go! Have fun and feel proud.

We just ate out for the first time since starting this WOE, at Texas Roadhouse this past week. Our server was awesome! We ordered steak, salad (no croutons) and we asked our vegies be served *loaded* - she told us she thinks we started a revolution for vegies in the kitchen! (and I have lost 21.3 lb in 5 weeks, hubby has lost 19.1)

I like to scan the menu to see what lo-carb items are offered with other entreés and always ask for substitutions instead of 'hold the ...'
So instead of a burger with no bun, I'll say a burger, but instead of a bun can I have the steamed veggies? Or instead of the fries can I have some coleslaw? Or instead of the toast and hasbrowns, can I have some fried onions and peppers? I have found that they never say no ... this way you get your moneys worth rather than just less food.

In the book New Atkins For A New You, there's a section that lists a number of of low carb ideas for various restaurant chains (can't say exactly what page etc as I've since given my copy away).

I know yours was a local, but if you haven't read NANY, it could also offer a few other options if you're still looking.
