Question Looking for microwave ready foods

I am not much of a cook and don't have access to a kitchen 2 out of 3 meals per day, but I have access to a microwave. Does anyone know of a thread or a site with information on ready to microwave meals or foods that are diet and semi low carb. I would like to find a site where they maybe locked a topic and have come up with a consensus of the best products, from a large number of members, like this site has.

TIA

Hi there, be careful of frozen meals, they are okay in a pinch - I don't know where you live. I'm in Canada and I've tried "Stouffers Carbmeter" and "Michelina's Advantage". We don't have SB Diet frozen entrees here yet -- There is a lot of sodium in these products so a constant diet of them wouldn't do you any good.

You can cook eggs and bacon in the microwave. Veggies, and who says you have to cook.

Salads can be deli meat and plain salad.

Plus have you seen the bowl muffin recipe on this forum. Most people love it and youi can make loads of variations of it. Go check out the recipe form.

Also, why not try make stuff the night before- leftovers? and then stick it in the fridge and heat in the microwave the next day?

Gemma.

I love stir-fry and can make it in the microwave. I just use frozen stir-fry veggies & pre-cooked, frozen shrimp. Add whatever you want for a sauce - some soy sauce, curry, fish sauce - whatever sounds good that day. Nuke it until the veggies are thawed and it's hot - enjoy!

HUH! I just tried microvaving egg whites (from a carton that said; "100% egg whites") mixed with heavy whipping cream, bacon bits, cheese, and seasoning. NOT BAD, NOT BAD AT ALL!

lately, i've been taking hamburger patties to work. i lightly pre-grill them (browned on the outside but bloody rare barely cooked in the middle), wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze them. then at work, i nuke them for about a minute and they come out cooked and nice and juicy. be careful of eggs in the microwave - they can blow up

You can get pre-cooked microwave bacon that only needs to be heated in the oven for a minute or less and comes out nice and crisp. I love it.

I also like to get the packages of chicken, tuna, salmon, etc. They don't need to be refrigerated until after you open them. You also don't need a can opener because they are in a foil package. They are great for snacks, camping, trips, brown bag lunches, etc. Just be sure to look at the contents because some do have higher carb counts than others, although most are between 1 and 3 carbs per serving.

Smile frozen meal

I have found exactly one low carb meal that is frozen. Just one! I found it in the frozen food section of Whole Foods supermarket. It is Tandoor Chef Chicken Curry. It's spicy! and it's just 8 carbs.
The ingredients are simple also: chicken breast, onions, tomatoes, water, canola oil, yogurt, cream, spices, sea salt, garlic, tumeric, green peppers, fenugreek leaves, oleoresin of paprika, bay leaves.

Birds eye make a delicious variety of frozen steamed fish fillets. They are low carb, low fat and come with a variety of sauces, my favourite being Thai Coconut Curry. 1 portion takes 5 min in the microwave -and while your fish is standing, you can zap some frozen mixed Asian vegies. Slide fish on top of vegies and enjoy this delicious, quick and healthy low carb meal!

I'd make a HUGE pasta-free lasagna on Sunday...then portion it into squares and freeze it. Same with meatloaf.

Then all you have to do is grab a container out of the freezer in the AM...by lunch it should be almost thawed...and you just pop it in the microwave.
You'll control the ingredients this way. Packaged foods are iccky and I usually want to eat about three of them.
