Default cannot lose ?

Hi

I have been 2.5 stonne over weight for 3 years now. I have lost 14 lbs since start of the year.

No matter what I do now, I cannot lose weight now.

I am in me 40s, I do have sedentary job. I am trying to up my exercise.

had blood tests for low thyroid etc. Did have elevated liver enzymes, ALT.

hospital said weight loss was way forward.

I dont drink or smoke, and was extremely fit in my 20s, 30s .

My mum ballooned with weight when she turned 40 something, I do believe that could be factor, genetic inheritance

my food intake is lowish carb, no bread, wheat. I believe I am consuming around 1500 cals per day

I have tried :

CLA
B12
Kelp
Vitamin D, calcium

all to aid weight loss. Jury still out on some of any potential benefits. Mum did have thyroid problems, and was diabetic toward end of her life.

just at wits end, I do not know which way to turn,

all positive advice welcome,

If you can post a list of everything you eat in a day, we can help from there

To lose and understand how and what makes it work, you can't guess. You have to track. Find a website or app and track carbs, fat, vitamins and minerals, as well as calories. Create a journal where you can look back to see your progress or where you started a trend you like or do not like.

I'm in the same position as you - weight was normal and manageable up until my 40s and then I started gaining rapidly.

(I have been on one diet or other since then & I am still hovering around 13stone)

If I think too hard about it, I can feel suicidal. I don't understand what has happened to my body and it is only now, from finding this website and reading the theories on weight gain, that I can see a glimmer of hope.

I've been low carbing for about 3 weeks and dropped 2lb - but, switched to increasing fats last week which seems to have helped.

I've certainly found losing weight harder as I've got older and the things I did when I was younger dont work now. The answer for me was to severely decrease my food intake. I lost a lot of weight following Atkins 9 years ago and my calorie intake then was around 2000 a day (carb intake 20), sometimes more and the weight fell off

This time round I havent measured it, but I dont have breakfast and have reduced my food intake dramatically (one small low carb meal a day and snacks generally) - and its working!!!! In fact yesterday all I had was a small plate of 5 litte closed cup mushrooms, chicken and corgettes fried in lard, later on, a few olives with a small amount of cheese and a stick of chicken satay. Being in ketosis suppresses my appetite, so I seem to forget about eating

Have a read of the Sticky for this category, there are some interesting aspects to "stalling". I analysed every bite I took, thinking I needed to cut more and more food groups from my diet, but it now looks like I have low thyroid function.

If you are trying to get answers about your thyroid, look at the website Stop the Thyroid Madness, and look for a doctor who performs Thyroflex testing. It's a lot better than fighting endless doctors to get the right blood tests done.

Good luck mate : )
