most health stores sell it (not GNC), you need to ask for it and it is usually behind the counter.

L-carnitine is available by prescription only in Canada, and it's likely to be confiscated at the border if you try to import it by mail. I checked several US supplements websites, and they clearly state it can't be shipped here.

As noted, some independent health food or sports nutrition stores may have it "behind the counter", you just have to ask quietly . I've heard that it's very expensive .

Correction: I had read your post quickly and it is Creatine carried at Costco, not L-carnitine.

I have brought l-carnitine across the border (driving, not flying) without any problem.

Most things, if they are for personal use, are ok to bring across the border. When in doubt, call and ask.

Like I said earlier in the thread... quite a few vitamin shops in the GTA carry this.

You need to ask at the cashier for it...

I don't think they'll actually seize it; it just can't be bought or sold here. I'll ask my buddy who works at customs.

I think the regulation applies more to the selling and distribution side of things. It's not unlawful for you to have it for personal use. It's just getting it across the border that's the problem ...

Things tend to be pretty straightforward if you're in the US in person, and want to bring something back with you for "personal use only", ie .. you don't intend to resell or redistribute commercially. Usually the amount you have purchased will tip them off at customs, ie, a bottle or two vs. a whole case of the stuff

With mail order, things get a bit tricky. You're not doing anything unlawful by ordering the product, but the person who sells it to you is violating Health Canada regulation, and could be fined .. if caught. There's the key .. "if caught". It's a crap shoot, and sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not.

forgot to add ...

The Canadian health food and sports nutrition stores that carry these non-allowed supplements "under the counter" are putting themselves at risk by selling them. I have a hunch that's why they jack up the price to criminal levels , to offset any fine they might ultimately have to pay ... if caught.

There's that "if caught" thing again ...
