Cool G'day from Aussie-land (New Member)

Hi All

Just a short introduction. My husband came across this site and thought I might like it. I am new to high protein/low carb eating (2 1/2 weeks actually) - and for the first time I can see myself reaching my target and being a slim happy person. (After losing just over 7kg (15.4lb) in that time).

We happened to be visiting my mother-in-law and she mentioned she was on a two week 'Scarsdale Diet'. This is a totally whole new concept for me - but after years of dieting, and getting fatter in the process - I will give anything a try. She graciously lent me her very old loved book and I'm now on my way. I would never have thought it possible.

Like so many, I have been brought up with the notion that the only way to lose weight is to eat rice, pasta, fruit, veg - cut down on fat, meat, dairy products. And here, all along I should have been doing the opposite. In the last 6 months a managed to gain 7kg (15.4lb), and in a matter of two weeks I have reversed that gain.

I am so excited, I want to know all there is to know about low carb eating. I would love to hear from anyone who can help me with books, websites, recipes, success stories, and more interestingly - HOW it works.

What can I say, I'm hooked, and this time I KNOW for a fact that a healthy, thin lifestyle is a reality for me.

Many thanks

Default welcome aboard!

Well Anne Marie, you've come to the right place to get info on all kinds of low-carb eating. All the things you mentioned in your post are on this board somewhere. There is a recipe section, a link to other websites section, and a stories section. Look around and ask all the questions you want! The people here are amazingly helpful! Glad you've joined us!!!

Welcome aboard anne-marie,

It's best to borrow a low-carb book from your library, to have a background on how it works. Check our Tips section from the menue as well for the basics, and we list a lot of low-carb books in our books section. If you click on these books it will take to Amazon. Even if you don't want to purchase online, they have some good reviews of each of those books that might help you choose the right one for you.

Smile hi anne-marie, welcome aboard

Scarsdale ... wow, now there's a name from out of the dark regions of my past ... I did Scarsdale, a couple times ... I know I was successful with losing weight, but it doesn't really give you a solid foundation for KEEPING it off...

As the others have said, your best bet is to read up on at least one of the popular and PROVEN lowcarb plans, such as Atkins, Protein Power or Carbohydrate Addicts. Click on Tips on the red menu bar at the top of the page, and under Lowcarb Basics and Frequently Asked Questions, you should find a good BASIC explanation of what lowcarbing is all about, as well as links to the official websites of the popular programs. Wa'il is right, you should be able to borrow the books from the library ... if you're like me though, you'll want to go out and buy your own copy

The Scarsdale Diet is good, as I remember it .. I'm sure you'll find it easy to move into another program, once you've found one that "fits" you and your life.

All the best, and keep us posted! I look forward to reading all about your success.

Doreen
