Default yummy receipe.......nil carbs!!!

cabbage & bacon
----------------

1 x cabbage
1 x onion
1 x knob butter
1 x piece garlic

fry the onion in the butter and garlic, add the bacon and cook, then add the washed and shredded cabbage and toss it about until its cooked.......enjoy!!

Deb's tip's
---------
try adding mushrooms for extra flavour!

I got this idea after going to a friends for a sunday roast years ago! and always end up doing it, its a good way of getting the kids to eat cabbage!!
best of luck and let me know what you think!!

40g raw cabbage = 1g carb
60g cooked cabbage = 1g carb
1 medium onion = 4.5g carbs
2 cloves of garlic = 0.5g carbs (1 tsp garlic powder = 7.5g carbs )

Sounds a great way of having cabbage, but it's definitely not carb free

onion 4 grms
garlic (per clove) less then 1grm
these are included without restriction in the diet, sorry I am allowed between 40 and 60 grms of carbs a day, so to me its nil........so sorry I should have said, the majority of people on this LC forum are on the Atkins.

Hi Sarah, yes I would agree that cabbage does give us that dreaded gas!!! BUT i have to say (from one ex gassy girl) since being on this diet.....my hubby will sit in the same room as me now!!! lol
I have had NO GAS problems AT ALL !!! absolutely worth sticking with charles for a bit longer I think!

heh I must admit I didn't do that well in the CC plan - mainly because I didn't feel the book truely explained it all! But it certainly is more geared to WOL eating too but I felt the atkins booked helped explain everything right!

Just need to get through induction properly!!

Oven cooked bacon is my lastest thing - tastes SO much nicer

not withstanding these comments above, this receipe serves 4 people as an accompliment to other dishes to provide a meal... but, if eaten alone would be higher in carbs, sorry for any confusion,

Umm, garlic powder isn't that high in carbs. This is the fit day nutritional count per teaspoon:

Total Carbohydrate 2.04g 1%

Dietary Fiber 0.277g 1%

Per tablespoon it's:

Total Carbohydrate 6.11g 2%

Dietary Fiber 0.832g 3%

Oops sorry - you're right Lisa - I just checked my book again - and it's 7.5 per tablespoon, not teaspoon as I previously said

Nice recipe. For those on really low carb regimes just leave out the onion. The rest is fine and reasonably low carb.
