HI LovC

I am new to the forum and recently diagnosed with PCOS. I am currently taking metformin and spironolactone to help with the hirsutism. I saw an immediate change for the first three months I was taking the meds and then it levelled off. I then went for my 6 month check-up and doubled the dose - what a difference it makes. My sister is only doing the metformin and has minimal results compared to me. Are you going to and endocronologist? I knew for 5 years what I had as I am the lucky one that has every single symptom and could not get my doctor to send me to a specialist until I started crying and begging him to help me. My periods are still all wacky but other symptoms are better or at least in my eyes they are. Hope that this helps

Thanks for the reply
No I don't see an Endo for it, I can handle the pain and wacky periods. The only thing I can't handle is the hair. I am calling her this week and asking for an anti androgen to get on. But I heard spironolactone didn't work that well for some people. So I'm not sure what she's going to give me. Just don't want anything that doesn't work.

I have not found anything particularly useful yet! I have had Aculight treatment which had a limited result but too painful on the face!

I am currently using Surgi Stop which is a cream that reduces hair growth. You can get this in chemists (uk anyway) try seraching on the net for it. This has stopped the hairs grwoing so fast.

Apart from that I am trying to find out about flutamide.

Don't know if this helps....

OK, I know I live in Australia but I had Hirsutism, and complained to my GP, AFTER I had done the research. She prescribed Androcur it works for me the hair growth is less and more sparce..... takes about 3 months on it B4 you see results if your as hairy as I was and then you drop the dosing. I few GP's may not prescribe it BUT it is what is in the contreceptive pill, just a higher dosing of it.
Hope this helps

Finally Monday I am seeing my doctor. Sometimes she's not very aggressive so I hope she will prescribe me something. If not I may find a doctor who will.

I take Aldactone and use Vaniqua. It helps alot, and about half of the hairs on my chin are dying (growing in white and coarse). I have Type 2 diabetes and was able to stop taking my Glucophage XR thanks to LCing, but I am going to ask to go back on it for the PCOS relief.

She prescribed Yasmin birth control and told me this would help. I hope this is right.

no results. I did have laser on my face worked wonderfully. But I have hair everywhere and I am seeing no lessoning! The unlasered parts are as bad as ever. I don't think doctors take us seriously about how we feel about the hair. I mean isn't there something else we could take? Something specifically for the hair?
