Default Annoying things taught in nursing college

I'm second year. Yesterday we had to start preparing a short presntation for today, so, just about 24 hours to do it, total. All members had to contribute. My group had 4 counting me, one had 7,and on down to a group that had 2.

Of the subjects to choose from, three were directly geared toward the obesity epidemic, but then, it is of major concern, and at least, my group didn't choose obesity (I would have balked if the others tried for it, not that they knew).

Among the more or less brainwashed statements (I am being kind, but many of my fellow students are very young), one stood out:

Apparently, one of the more prominent reasons, according to one of the groups, why the official dietary recommendations from the government regarding fruit and vegetables (basically, five-a-day) aren't followed more closely by families with children, is because, "maybe the parents are like, following one of those faddy, low carb diets, and putting the kids on it, too".

Yes, my fellow students, and the teachers teaching them, are indeed brainwashed. After all, low carb people eat no vegetables and no fruits at all. It's been my experience that if anything, we start eating MORE. Certainly I did. I may remember more examples tomorrow, but am in dire need of some sleep right now.

I can only imagine the challenge of sitting through an "education" that mis-educates on so many fronts.

Are the students required to supply data to back up their presentations, or is it all "maybe" this "maybe" that?

Can you pass your exams by providing the expected answers without feeling too guilty??

Best wishes.

At least you know what to question, and thank goodness we have someone like you who will be able to understand the health benefits of good nutrition, even if you have to couch your knowledge during this time in the prevailing "wisdom."

Sometimes I despair, foreseeing the nutritional future of the world. Luckily, one person (at least) from your class knows a better nutritional way. I hope you can sublimate your opinions long enough to graduate.

When I get too discouraged with the choices I see being made by the 51%, I remind myself that 50% of the world is AVERAGE. That translates to ~ not-very-smart, as in average-in-intelligence. These are the people who make no choices for themselves, as that is too challenging for them intellectually. These people take the information they get from others and vote accordingly. They also buy products on that same basis, cook on the same basis, eat on the same basis. They are essentially sheeple. Until their puppet masters (or shepherds if you will) change the message, they will continue to follow the path they currently tread.
