Bingeing
I have baked flax crackers twice since I began my diet in January of this year. Both times I "lost it" and ate until none were left.
I haven't had an Atkins bar for months, but when I first started my diet I tried them. Every time it caused a major binge.
In the early weeks of dieting, pork skins caused binging, but now I can eat just one and walk away.
I always come close to "losing it" with Linda's deep dish pizza, so I make sure that I have enough calories to "spend" when I make it.
Surprisingly, I don't binge on sweet things such a Buttoni's coconut cake. I would love to eat the whole thing at one time but I can put some in the freezer for later. I even managed to control myself with her shortbread cookies, which I love. But as a safety precaution, I always cut the recipe in half so there won't be temptation to binge....or if I should binge, there won't be twice as much to polish off.
So it looks like I will never, ever make flax crackers again. Well, maybe I could bake a half recipe.....then I COULDN'T binge on them!
All of the foods listed above are low-carb foods. When I binged, it was not on high-carb JUNK FOOD. I do not allow high carb foods into my house - I do not buy them at all.
Binging is practically non-existant now, thank God, as stress and anxiety over dieting has worn off. I think that bingeing is a panic reaction to dieting, but the panic - and the bingeing - diminish with time. That's why it's so important to keep trying even when you fall off the wagon....eventually it will stick.
