Default Right Forum? "Sweet" Tea

HI! I am not sure if I am putting this recipe in the right place but here it is...

ok, I'm from the South and can't go with out my sweet tea... (it's in our blood) so I made a modified version after playing around with it forever. It is great, I swear by it. I almost drink an entire gallon a day of it by myself.

ok

3 Luisanne DECAF tea bags (regular sized)
a few quarts of water
1 cup of Splenda
2 packets of sweet-n-low

Bring tea bags and water to a boil. As soon as it starts boiling, remove it from the hot eye so it can brew a little more. While it is brewing, put the "sugars" in a one gallon tea pitcher. Pour the tea over the sugars and remove the bags, careful so they don't break. Slowly stir in cold water. Keep in the fridge and serve over ice! YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY!

I'm from the South, too, so sweet tea is also in my blood. But, at least for folks on lower carb plans who might read this, keep in mind that 1 cup of granular splenda has 24 g carbs (which is from the maltodextrin and dextrose filler mixed with the splenda). So, there's going to be a good bit of sugar in a whole gallon of this tea.

Yes, the 24 g per cup of granular splenda comes straight from the manufacturer's webiste, although they only give this information on their diabetes page. Splenda packets have about 0.5 g of carbohydrates per packet.

Liquid splenda has 0 g carbs. It's the fillers in solid splenda (to give it volume) that have the carbs. I don't know the conversion factors. I've never tried liquid splenda myself because its hard to find in the US.

Default Source for Liquid Splenda

About a month ago I found a post from Tofi, a moderator on this site, giving information about a source for liquid Splenda. I'll quote her post below. I ordered from the Canadian source, and I'm delighted with it.

Quote from Tofi:

Actually there are sites on the web ... that sell "unflavoured syrup" made "with sucralose". The makers of Splenda will allow this as long as the syrup is not "made with Splenda". Dumb, isn't it?

Look in the products area or search the web. For instance: http://locarber.com/

There are sites in Canada (Toronto area) which sell this as well.
http://low-carbing.com/store/index.php?prodID=zcs-001 for "Zero Carb Syrup Concentrate.

End of quote.

WOW thx! WOW again on the price... 32 dollars for a 8 oz bottle! Is it good enough to be worth that? If so, I might just be *gulp... ordering some.

It is expensive, but a little goes a long way. There is a conversion chart right on the bottle. Some examples:

4 drops = 1 tsp sugar
24 drops = 1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp = 1 cup sugar

I think it's worth it, but I know what you mean - I had the same reaction when I first saw the price. I'm going to order more this week.

Well you know, if that is the conversion.. thats actually NOT that bad. I mean, I use one cup of the regular in my tea (for an entire gallon) so that means, it would only take 1 1/2 tsp... so I bet it is almost equlivant. The bags are 7 dollars here.

Why don't you try it once and see what you think? I find it's well worth the price. But then I live alone and have no one's financial needs to worry about but my own, so that makes it easier!

Default I checked out the conversion

I just found a conversion for your sweet tea. 1.5 teaspoons is .25 ounces. That means that if you only used the liquid splenda for the sweet tea, you'd be able to make it 32 times with that one bottle. I hope that helps you figure out if it's worth the money.

Hey, the site at http://locarbsyrup.com/ is less expensive. Did you check that one out? With priority mail and insurance already added in it's $ 26.66.
