Welcome Allen. This is a great place to hang out if you want to get healthy. There is plenty of great information and some wonderful people that can help you along. For years I considered weight loss surgery my only hope. I'd lost weight "going on a low carb diet" many, many times. I just never stuck with it. This time I did stick with it. I did low carb all the way and made it a total lifestyle change. I made cheating not an option. Much to my surprise it actually worked. Not cheating actually made the diet easier. Eventually, the "diet" became how I eat. It became easy and I rode that all the way in to a healthy weight. No weight loss surgery required.
From what I gather, it is really more about your mindset than the diet. Low carb is the best diet for me. It resolved my diabetes and a number of other health markers including high blood pressure. It is more than likely the best diet for you, too. But more than anything else, the commitment to go in all the way and not look back is what makes this work. Going on and off the diet is what doesn't work. When I figured that out I finally found success. And after I'd done this way of eating for several months straight, I found I lost the "need" for all those old junky foods that I thought I could not live with out.
I wish you the best as you get started. Consider starting a journal. That is a great way to log your progress and it provides others a place to step in and offer support. It looks like you are off to a good start. Keep it up and you will reach your goals.
