This has been a common concern for me since reading TSP and wondering where the happy medium is when knowing how hard/much to exercise. Well, I went to see a naturopath today and learned A LOT about my body! He thinks my lack of ability to lose weight is directly related to my adrenals and my thyriod so I will be having those tested (the physical exam he did confirmed what he thought).
Anyway--we were talking about exercise and I was telling him what Schwar. says about over-exercising and how it can have a negative affect on your adrenals and he told me a way to guage if you are doing too much.
He said to take your temperature when you wake up (or before you exercise--I walk in the mornings). Then wait an hour after you are done your workout and take your temp again. If it is the same or higher--you're doing good (he said higher is actually better and shows that it is benefitting you). If it is lower, than you are doing too much. Pretty cool--I'm going to try it tomorrow and see what happens.
He spent almost 3 hours with me and I now feel like I have some hope! He throroughly explained how your adrenals, thyriod and hormones all affect your metabolism and why mine is slow. I'm sure it's a lot like what Dr S. does with her testing and supplements, but it was nice to have someone face-to-face and for him to tell me that I am doing everything right right now (he loves TSP way of eating and says it is VERY healthy. He reminded me that fat does not make you fat!).
I still haven't weighed myself (I got my period 2 days ago), but I might get on when my period leaves. I think I have stayed the same which is ok with me for now since I feel *really* good and healthy and my skin looks great with all these good fats! I will be very curious to see if his plan works for me. I have to get all the tests done first though before he will give me anything so that will be a few weeks from now. I'll keep you posted
