"Not bad for being self-taught on my first computer! I not only had to learn assembly but I had to assemble it myself into hex and poke it into memory."
Ditto for me,Korban.Getting a real assembler helped and then
C compiler completed my journey(well,sort of).
I relate these experiences to young engineers just getting out
of university and I get these strange looks(like "nobody can be that old"). We've come a long way.

C so rules because of its portability.. but such a pain in the ass. I was born and bred on Fortran... in spite of its limitations...
