Question Figured some of it out

I just figured out, the other day, that I too am an emotional eater. But, my issue goes a complete opposite of what most people consider an emotional eater. I don't eat when I am upset, or frustrated. I found out that when great things happen to me, I am inclined to "celebrate" with food. I was raised that way! I didn't even realize it, until I felt like I had a huge accomplishment, and my first thoughts were to what I would eat to celebrate a victory! It hit me like a ton of bricks. I can't celebrate a weight loss with food! It seems stupid, but now that I have that under control, I am totally losing again! Anyone else have this problem??

I don't consider myself an emotional eater, but I did just realize I'm a binger. And I finally figured out WHY! When I was a child, our punishment was to "go to your room without dinner". So what do I do now, but stuff my face in fear of the next "drought"; and maybe also because if I'm eating, then that means I've been good! Bah!

At least we've both realized our issue!! Step one, right?

Throughout human history people have celebrated with food. This is not disordered thinking -- it is perfectly normal.

"Special" celebratory foods don't have to be bad for you or derail your eating. Lobster dipped in butter and low carb chocolate mousse are pretty special to me -- I rarely eat them -- and work great for celebrations.

I can see how one would try not to associate any emotions whatsoever with eating, it's very tempting.
