Default sour cream salad dressing

I'm trying to avoid vegetable oils, and I've experimented wtih sour cream-based salad dressings.

This one's pretty good: mix in a bowl 1/2 t mustard (I use organic yellow mustard), 1 t vinegar (I use sherry vinegar), and a few drops of lemon extract. Add 1/2 cup of sour cream and mix well. You can add garlic, shallots, sesame seeds, turmeric, or other herbs; also add a little more vinegar or mustard, depending on how tangy you want it. Works well as a dip also. May want to add a little half and half for thinner consistency as salad dressing.

Sylvie, that sounds great, I will try it. This is the sour cream dressing I made today:

I didn't measure anything so it's whatever consistancy you like and spices to your taste.

Sour cream
Heavy whipping cream
Chives
Onion Powder
Garlic Powder
Two Cloves of Garlic
a dash of salt or not

It was so good on spinach with pecans, I had two helpings tonight.

Those both sound like they'd be really good as coleslaw dressings too! Don't have sour cream on hand -- I wonder how they'd be with yogurt ... hmmmmmmm

Glenda, that is so funny, I was thinking of using sour cream to make a mock yogurt. Sour cream, some kind of flavor, probably lemon and some fake sugar..
