ANJ:
I also have a nut addiction. I can go through about 300 grams (10 oz) of cashews in one sitting. However, come the next morning I feel sooooo sluggish.
I don't know why nuts are so addicting. Even the low carb nuts like unsalted macadamias are addicting to me.
There are 3 things I do that help if I must have nuts.
First, I never, never, never keep bags of nuts (or any other treats) in the house. I'm actually thinking of getting a box with a lock on it so I can put treats in it for my husband to dole out for me once per week.
Haven't been able to find one though. Actually, what would be really cool is to get a food box that has a programmable timer on it to unlock whenever you have it set for. Then I could just take out a treat and lock it back up before I even get a chance to think of eating any more. Nothing like that though. As you see, I have no control and I digress...
Second, if I must have nuts, I will go to a bulk food area and buy one handful (not 2 or 3) of nuts. There's no issue of control then. However, you do seem to have more control than I do since I noticed you hold on to a can for 3 days.
Third, I decided that nuts would be my occasional cheat food. Instead of cheating on sugar, they will be my cheat. This works well for me because my cheats have actually become healthier. It's the best of two evils for me.
I notice that even if I have one handful of cashews, I won't go out of ketosis for some reason. However, give me a LC bar, and I'm out. So, I figure in controlled amounts, nuts can be okay. However, control is the key. I have them maybe once a week.
I won't even go into alternate foods you can take to school since you already know what you can do (people have also given great advise on that). Fact is, you just prefer nuts to other foods and they are also very convenient. That's part of the problem.
Hope this helps
